The Role:

To meet the requirements of the role you will need to demonstrate the following:
  • Specialist knowledge and understanding of Internal Medicine.
  • Possession of a high level of initiative and decision-making ability, along with sound clinical knowledge, in order to make important and ethically informed decisions on a day-to-day basis.
  • Proven ability to provide specialist consultancy/advisory services to both internal and external agencies whilst ensuring the provision of safe and high-quality health care derived from sound knowledge of concepts of Human Factors and Patient Safety.
  • Demonstrated commitment to provide specialist leadership for clinical and service improvement activities to initiate, encourage and participate in research, evaluation and evidence-based oversight aimed at creating a high-level performance culture within the service.
  • Effective time management skills and reliability in meeting deadlines and commitments.
  • Sound knowledge and demonstrated leadership at a strategic level of human resource management issues, including workplace health and safety, equal employment opportunity, anti-discrimination and demonstrated commitment to their implementation.
The Hospital:
This is a level 2 hospital (354) beds with 24-hour cardiac intervention, trauma service, medical specialities including Respiratory, Nephrology, Neurology, Endocrine, Rheumatology, Oncology on site with visiting specialists in other disciplines.

To reflect the growing demand for health care in the region, the Hospital has been redeveloped at a cost of $408 million. The redeveloped hospital is a digital hospital, equipped with leading edge technology to assist staff to provide the highest level of care and comfort to patients. It is the first regional hospital in Queensland to have the complete integrated electronic medical record.

Location:
A vibrant tropical location, home to a diverse and energetic community with rural and coastal living opportunities.  The region stretches from secluded islands off the coast through golden sand beaches and into lush sub-tropical rain forests.
This is one of the fastest growing regions in Queensland, currently a population of approximately 182,000 people in the region, only just over an hour's flight from Brisbane.

Palm fringed beaches and crystal-clear waters are your playground for fishing and water sports. The region also hosts native rainforests that are popular hiking destinations. With an average annual temperature over 26 degrees, the region offers the best of the Australian experience in typical laid back “Aussie Style”.

Mandatory qualifications/Professional registration:
Qualifications from a recognised tertiary institution and experience appropriate for current registration as a Specialist in Medicine with the Medical Board of Australia.
In general, this will require fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) or equivalent postgraduate specialist qualification and eligibility for accreditation as a RACP – approved supervisor.
