The Lathe Turner is responsible for setting up operating and maintaining lathes and other machinery to produce precision metal parts. This role requires a high level of skill in metalworking attention to detail and the ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications. The Lathe Turner ensures that all products meet quality standards and specifications.
Responsibilities:
Machine Setup and Operation:
- Set up and operate lathe machines to perform various machining operations such as turning facing threading and drilling.
- Select appropriate tools attachments and materials for each job.
Technical Interpretation:
- Read and interpret blueprints technical drawings and specifications to determine machining operations required.
- Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and calipers.
Quality Assurance:
- Inspect and measure finished products to ensure they meet quality standards and specifications.
- Make adjustments to machinery and tools as needed to maintain product quality.
Maintenance and Safety:
- Perform routine maintenance on lathes and other machinery to ensure optimal performance.
- Adhere to safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe working environment.
Material Handling:
- Load and unload materials and parts onto and from the lathe.
- Ensure proper storage and handling of materials and tools.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of production including machine settings material usage and finished products.
- Report any issues or discrepancies to the supervisor.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent. Technical or vocational training in machining is preferred.
- Minimum of 2years of experience as a Lathe Turner or in a similar role.
- Proficiency in operating lathe machines and using precision measuring tools.
- Strong knowledge of metal properties and machining processes.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Excellent problemsolving skills and attention to detail.
- Good handeye coordination and manual dexterity.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
