Job Summary:
Assessments of high priority housing applications.
To assess and actively manage a caseload of housing applications from applicants who are high need with particular requirements due to their overcrowding underoccupation vulnerability health age or other needs.
To assist these high need housing applicants with a range of other housing options including looking at private sector alternatives exploring social housing opportunities in other areas and applying for mutual exchange if they are an existing social housing tenant with a need to move.
Develop individual rehousing strategies to maximise the service provided to these applicants liaising closely with advocates and other professionals providing support to them
Carrying out home visits to fully assess circumstances and to offer the best possible housing options advice and information on rehousing prospects.
Key Duties/Accountabilities
Provide applicants with targeted advice on the Council s lettings scheme and procedure in order to maximise their sustainable housing options and rehousing prospects.
Provide applicants with help and support in terms of their housing applications and encourage them to make informed and pragmatic decisions about all of the housing options available to them.
Assessing the more complex and difficult cases to maximise rehousing prospects. This will include liaising with a range of other professionals to ensure all relevant information is collated.
Identifying cases of suspected fraudulent applications and referring these to the Team Manager.
Work closely with OTs and other Health Professionals to ensure the best possible advice to those requiring accessible homes.
Actively work with OTs and other stakeholders to ensure that the Disabled Peoples Register and Accessible Housing Register are maintained and IT systems regularly updated. Work to deliver Project 120 which focuses on matching properties to people with mobility needs.
Essential Experience Required:
Experience of working with the legislative and policy framework within the lettings service including Part VI Housing Act 1996 as amended is essential.
Experience of Housing Options is essential.
Experience of using a variety of ICT systems is essential.
Essential Qualification Required:
A good general standard of education written and good verbal skills is essential.
Additional information to note:
Working hours: 35 hours per week.
The role required to be able to work evenings and weekends with appropriate notice.
The roles requires a DBS check.
