Job Description

Genesis Consulting has an immediate opportunity for an experienced, forward thinking Technical Writer with a passion for growth and business transformation. Join our team and utilize both legacy and modern, open-source technologies to develop, deliver and support applications for our clients while leveraging concepts of Lean, Agile, Kanban and SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework). Duties and Responsibilities:

The Technical Writer, will create, edit, and organize highly technical information and turn it into meaningful value-driven outputs for internal and external audiences. The Technical Writer will be primarily responsible for developing, supporting, and maintaining, procedural, and technical documentation. This role involves tasks such as writing conceptual overviews and procedures, technical documentation for software development, and user manuals. Update documentation with a guiding principle to communicate complex information clearly, concisely, and accurately without using jargon. The Technical Writer will also help teams produce deliverables, technical documents, process documentation and conduct quality reviews. The Technical Writer will support proposal teams to deliver responses to solicitations and client requests. Other duties include but may not be limited to:

  • Write a variety of technical documents; design specifications, diagrams, manuals (system and end users) white papers, flow chats, reports, and/or manuals
  • Consume raw technical details provided by the various SME s and construct appropriate documentation to the detail and level required by the document consumers
  • Coordinate the display of graphics and the production of the document
  • Ensure content is of high quality and conforms with standards for technical accuracy, grammar, punctuation, readability, and document formatting
  • Produce and update documentation on product features including user manuals, operations guides, flow diagrams, scripts, strategy and policy documents, and standard operating procedures
  • Write new content in the style that is most suitable for each target audience
  • Edit copy for voice, tone, and accuracy
  • Map out frameworks and methodologies that are easy to understand
  • Manage and refine existing content in need of refresh and/or revamp
  • Partner with the team members to inventory, organize, and publish content into our content management tools and knowledge bases
  • Review content analytics to understand customer impact and inform future content creation decisions
  • Conduct quality assurance reviews and implement revisions to in-app text
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to ensure timely delivery of all documentation and other deliverables for each release.
  • Understand the complexities of our product/technology so you can clearly communicate how it works and why it matters.
  • Serve as Site Collection Administrator for internal government SharePoint site (i.e. permissions management, publish new content, manage existing content)
  • Maintain existing end-user documentation & produce new end-user documentation
  • Coordinate with developers and client stakeholders to ensure documentation is clear, accurate, and useful
  • Produce blog posts and email communications to announce new content or features
  • Occasionally produce technical documentation for system enhancements by researching business rules and creating process maps
  • Produce other documentation as requested by the client and within scope of the contract

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications/Experience:

  • 3+ years of experience as a Technical Writer
  • 3+ years experience in technical communication, which includes but is not limited to technical writing, software specification writing, instructional design, technical editing, copyediting or proofreading, quality assurance, and user experience design
  • Experience technical proposals, including cover letters, executive summaries, solution descriptions, and pricing tables a plus
  • Ability to translate jargon into plain English
  • Experience with SharePoint, MS Word, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat Pro
  • Ability to logically categorize new information into existing taxonomies and consider how new information impacts existing information
  • Ability to organize complex technical information in a clear and concise manner
  • Role does not require a background in website design, programming, or information system; however, the successful candidate will:
  • Have an aptitude for understanding basic technological concepts, such as the basic mechanisms that generate a confirmation email after you make a reservation on a hotel website
  • Have experience with or ability to learn query logic (as would be used to create custom workflows in SharePoint Designer)
  • Have experience with or ability to learn basic website design/administration concepts (simple HTML & CSS, maintaining site architecture, embedding images & videos)
  • Experience as a SharePoint Site Collection administrator (mainly: permissions management, unlocking documents, creating pages, uploading images)
  • Experience with SharePoint Designer
  • Experience with Visio
  • Excellent project management skills and ability to work under tight deadlines
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams


Minimum Education:

  • Bachelors Degree AND 2+ years experience working with developers, testers, analysts, and other subject matter experts (SME) to create, assimilate, develop, and convey technical material in a concise and effective manner for the application documentation support activities
  • OR 6+ years experience in lieu of education

  • Willingness to travel and/or telecommute on occasion depending on customer needs
