Job Description

The Supervisor of Technical Services is a professional engineering position that is responsible for the administration and management of the Technical Services division of Public Works. You will plan organize and direct the work of employees engaged in a wide variety of municipal operations and services. You will provide technical advice and assistance to the organizations leadership in the long range planning construction improvement and maintenance of water and environmental resources streets and other infrastructure and insures that modern safe effective and efficient practices are utilized by work crews. Work also includes contract management handling citizen issues and budget and personnel administration of the department. The employee represents the organization to a wide variety of citizens developers state and federal regulatory officials etc. Work is performed independently and in coordination with the Director and other leadership.

Your Qualifications:

  • A Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering and a minimum of five (5) years of professional experience of a progressively responsible nature in the practice of civil engineering including two (2) years in a supervisory capacity preferably on a municipal level.
  • Must be registered as a Professional Engineer (Civil) in Connecticut or if licensed in another state must obtain a Connecticut license within six (6) months of appointment.
  • A thorough knowledge of civil engineering design principles and engineering practices as applied to departmental functions is required as demonstrated through professional projects completed.
  • Must have excellent knowledge of the principles and practices of public works and water and environmental resources administration planning and construction.
  • Experience in interpreting and preparing complex and detailed records and reports. Must also be experienced in presenting complex information to executives and municipal state and/or federal agencies.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Motor Vehicle Operators License.
