Job Description

Reporting to the Quality Director and/or Project Manager the responsibilities of the Environmental Manager include:


  • Lead the projects environmental management team (recruit integrate train and develop resources);
  • Ensure that the resources required for the environmental management of the site are adequate;
  • Establish strong leadership for the environmental management of the site in an integrated and continuous improvement approach;
  • Plan the project in order to obtain recognition in sustainable development;
  • Coordinate all issues relating to the environmental management system ensuring effective implementation and certification by a thirdparty organization;
  • Ensure compliance with contractual requirements and supports the management of other requirements (e.g. authorization conditions/requirements);
  • Establish and maintain processes to periodically verify the compliance of environmental authorizations;
  • Implement the internal audit process to ensure compliance with the requirements of the environmental management system and determine all necessary corrective and preventive measures;
  • Take the necessary measures to continually improve the environmental management system and environmental performance including correcting Nonconformities;
  • Produce documentation relating to the environmental management system to be included in the monthly and annual reports to be transferred to the client;
  • Communicate with the client and environmental authorities according to protocol;
  • Convene and lead followup meetings of the environment subcommittee for the results of environmental monitoring and progress towards obtaining environmental recognition;
  • Take charge of managing environmental risks and emergencies;
  • Support the Project Manager in the selection of Environmental Policy commitments;
  • Ensure the environmental performance of the Project by closely monitoring its indicators and ensuring the effectiveness of the actions implemented;
  • All other related responsibilities.


Requirements


  • Postsecondary degree or diploma in Civil Engineering or Environmental Science program (or similar) or a combination of technical training and/or related experience;
  • Minimum of 10 years of industry experience in an environmental capacity;
  • Experience in project management or leading a team is required;
  • Preference will be given to candidates with City of Vancouver permitted process;
  • Experience in civil works in an urban environment;
  • Experience in underground works is considered an asset;
  • Knowledge of federal and provincial environmental regulations and standards;
  • Knowledge of methods approaches and best practices related to environmental inspections and audits;
  • Experience with scheduling and planning site activities;
  • Excellent command of computer software including Microsoft Office Suite MS Project BlueBeam AutoCAD etc.
  • Bilingual (an asset) but proficiency in English language with excellent communication skills (written and verbal) is required.
