Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) Teacher to join our team for theschool year. The DHH Teacher will work as a Hearing Itinerant across multiple schools within the district providing support and specialized instruction to students who are deaf or hard of hearing. This role involves collaborating with general education teachers administrators and families to ensure that students receive the necessary accommodations and modifications to succeed academically and socially.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide direct instruction and support to students who are deaf or hard of hearing in various educational settings.
  • Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to adapt and modify curriculum and instructional strategies to meet the needs of students.
  • Conduct assessments and evaluations to monitor student progress and adjust instructional approaches as needed.
  • Facilitate communication between students teachers and families through sign language written communication and other methods.
  • Provide training and resources to general education staff on best practices for supporting students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records including progress reports IEP documentation and communication logs.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in deaf education and related fields.

Requirements

  • Bachelor s or Master s degree in Deaf Education Special Education or a related field.
  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with an endorsement in Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
  • Experience working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing in a K12 educational setting.
  • Strong understanding of the IEP process and experience in developing and implementing IEPs.
