Overview
An Oncosurgeon is a vital member of the medical team specializing in surgical procedures to diagnose stage and treat cancer. This role plays a critical part in providing comprehensive cancer care to patients working closely with oncologists radiologists and other healthcare professionals to deliver multidisciplinary treatment plans.
Key Responsibilities
- Performing surgical procedures to remove tumors and cancerous tissues
- Evaluating patients to determine suitability for surgery and anticipated outcomes
- Collaborating with oncologists and other specialists to develop treatment plans
- Participating in tumor boards and multidisciplinary team meetings
- Providing postoperative care and monitoring patient recovery
- Utilizing minimally invasive techniques when appropriate
- Participating in clinical research and trials related to oncology
- Training and supervising medical students residents and fellows
- Contributing to quality improvement initiatives within the surgical department
- Remaining updated on new techniques and advancements in oncological surgery
Required Qualifications
- Medical degree from an accredited institution
- Completion of a surgical residency program
- Board certification in general surgery and surgical oncology
- Valid state medical license and DEA registration
- Proven experience in oncological surgical procedures
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team
