Job Description

City Council Administrator

Overview:

The City Council Administrator plays a crucial role in supporting the effective functioning of the city council by providing administrative and strategic support to city council members and other elected officials. This position is essential in ensuring that city governance operates efficiently and in accordance with legal and procedural requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the daily operations of the city council office
  • Coordinate and facilitate council meetings and work sessions
  • Research and analyze policy issues for city council members
  • Develop and maintain administrative procedures and processes
  • Collaborate with city departments and external stakeholders
  • Prepare and distribute meeting agendas minutes and reports
  • Oversee budget planning and financial management
  • Implement and monitor city council decisions and directives
  • Assist with public relations and community engagement efforts
  • Supervise council office staff and interns
  • Coordinate special projects and initiatives as directed by the council
  • Provide strategic support to council members on key issues
  • Ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards
  • Manage records and information management
  • Represent the council in various meetings and events

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Public Administration Political Science or related field
  • Proven experience in local government administration or related field
  • Knowledge of government procedures and legislative processes
  • Strong analytical and problemsolving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
  • Proficiency in project management and organizational skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fastpaced demanding environment
  • Experience with budget planning and financial management
  • Understanding of public policy development and analysis
