Job Description

The Role:
We are seeking a dedicated Consultant/Specialist Palliative Care Physician to join a newly redeveloped hospital in a beautiful tropical location.

You will be expected to provide specialist palliative care services to patients as part of multidisciplinary team to ensure the provision of appropriate patient care. In addition, provide professional leadership within a specialist medical area and provide training, education and supervision to medical students from universities, junior medical staff and other health care providers.

The Specialist Palliative Care Service (SPCS) provides palliative care support to inpatients, outpatient clinics and a community program to assist patients and carers in their own home within a 45km radius. Specialist palliative care support in other locations is provided by the Specialist Palliative Care Rural Telehealth Service.

Your team will consist of a registrar trainee, nurses and allied health staff. You will be able to demonstrate professional leadership within a specialist medical area and make available training, education and supervision to medical students, junior medical staff and other health care providers.

The Hospital:
This is a level 2 hospital (354) beds with 24-hour cardiac intervention, trauma service, medical specialities including Respiratory, Nephrology, Neurology, Endocrine, Rheumatology, Oncology on site with visiting specialists in other disciplines.

This state of the art Hospital is equipped with leading edge technology to assist staff to provide the highest level of care and comfort to the patients.

To reflect the growing demand for health care in the region, the Hospital has been redeveloped at a cost of $408 million. The redeveloped hospital is a digital hospital, equipped with leading edge technology to assist staff to provide the highest level of care and comfort to patients. It is the first regional hospital in Queensland to have the complete integrated electronic medical record.

Mandatory qualifications/Professional registration/Other requirements:
General and Specialist registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulatory authority (Medical Board of Australia), and; Fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) with specialized skills, knowledge and clinical competence in the area of palliative care are mandatory and should hold an FRACP in Palliative Medicine or FAChPM.
