Position: GIS Technical Architect
Location: Sacramento CA hybrid (mostly remote)
Duration: Long Term
Client: Delegata/State of CA
Job Description:
** All travel per diem parking and/or living expenses shall be at the workers and/or Vendors expense. **
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled GIS Technical Architect to lead the design implementation and governance of our organizations enterpriselevel geographic information systems and infrastructure. The GIS Technical Architect will be responsible for developing and maintaining the overall technical vision strategy and roadmap for GIS solutions ensuring alignment with business objectives and industry best practices.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain the technical architecture and strategies for GIS systems including data models system integrations and infrastructure design
- Evaluate and recommend GIS technologies software and tools to support organizational needs and objectives
- Collaborate with stakeholders project teams and subject matter experts to gather requirements and define technical solutions
- Design and implement GIS data management strategies including data governance quality assurance and security protocols
- Oversee the development and deployment of GIS applications services and tools ensuring adherence to architectural standards and best practices
- Provide technical leadership mentoring and guidance to GIS development teams and technical staff
- Conduct research and stay uptodate with emerging GIS technologies trends and industry developments
- Develop and maintain technical documentation standards and guidelines for GIS systems and processes
- Participate in the planning and execution of GIS projects including resource allocation risk management and performance monitoring
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science Geographic Information Systems or a related field
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in GIS system architecture design and implementation
- Deep understanding of GIS data models spatial analysis techniques and cartographic principles
- Proficient in programming languages (e.g. Python JavaScript SQL) and scripting for GIS automation and customization
- Strong knowledge of database management systems data warehousing and data integration principles
- Experience with enterprise GIS platforms (e.g. ArcGIS Enterprise FME Server GeoServer)
- Familiarity with cloudbased GIS technologies and deployment models
- Excellent problemsolving analytical and critical thinking skills
- Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities
- Proven leadership and project management skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Masters degree in GIS Computer Science or a related field
- Professional certifications (e.g. GISP TOGAF or vendorspecific certifications)
- Experience in specific domains (e.g. utilities transportation environmental defense)
- Knowledge of webbased GIS technologies (e.g. ArcGIS Online ArcGIS Web AppBuilder)
Familiarity with DevOps practices and agile software development methodologies
