Job Description
A finance HOD has a wide range of responsibilities which can include:
Conducting research in their area of expertise and publishing peer reviewed
articles in academic journals
Participating in academic activities such as conferences seminars workshops and
symposiums to share research findings with peers and colleagues
Developing curriculum teaching courses and providing academic counseling to
students
Preparing lectures and course materials such as syllabi lecture notes and reading
lists
Teaching undergraduate or graduate level classes in areas such as investments
financial markets corporate finance risk management accounting and taxation
Advising students on academic issues such as choosing a major or applying to
graduate school
Conducting research focused on topics such as investment strategies risk
management tax laws or financial planning techniques
Reviewing student papers for grammatical errors plagiarism and other mistakes
before they are graded by professors
Develop and revise course curriculum instructional materials and assessments in
alignment with program goals
Foster a positive learning environment that engages students and promotes active
participation
Advise and mentor students on academic and professional matters
Evaluate student performance and provide feedback to support their growth and
development
Serve on departmental college and university committees as needed
Engage in scholarly research and writing and present findings at conferences and
in peerreviewed journals
Seek external funding for research projects through grant writing
Collaborate with colleagues on research projects
Stay abreast of developments in the field of finance through continued education
and professional development activities
Participate in service learning and community outreach initiatives
Requirements
A finance HOD must have a PhD in Finance or a related field such as economics or
accounting.
