Job Description

Our client the Central Okanagan Food Bank (COFB) is a nonprofit charitable organization committed to creating a healthy hungerfree community by providing healthy nutritious food to those who need it most. They rely on the generosity of the community to support the work they do through the donation of food funds and time. These donations come from individuals families organizations and community groups as well as various fundraising/foodraising efforts.

They are currently seeking a driven Program Manager to join their team in Kelowna BC and to provide oversight of their full suite of programs. As the successful candidate you will spearhead the development and maintenance of initiatives aligned with key directives focusing on creating a healthy hungerfree community in the Okanagan.

Reporting to the Executive Director this newly established position offers you the chance to help shape a role uniquely tailored to you! You will lead a team of passionate Program Coordinators and a valuable team of Volunteers while overseeing key programs like Food for Thought More than Food and Food Education. These programs are critical to addressing food insecurity across the region. A typical day in this role will include program management including planning and evaluation of the various food programs; communication and advocacy; client services; training and education; and emergency response. Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and oversee a team of Coordinators and Volunteers to ensure that each program achieves its set objectives;
  • Develop implement and maintain program goals performance objectives policies and procedures in line with Food Banks Canada Food Banks BC COFB and Board directives to promote a healthy hungerfree community;
  • Evaluate internal metrics (Link2Feed) to develop comprehensive program goals and work with the executive team on resource development;
  • Research interpret and establish budgets and timelines to support program growth and sustainability.
  • Develop program evaluation plans and monitor program activities to meet program and grant objectives. Prepare and submit comprehensive program goal reports and correspondence;
  • Promote and share information about hunger and food security with key stakeholders; collaborating with government social agencies and retail partners. Establish communication plans for community programs agency partners and all key stakeholders;
  • Develop and implement agency program training including annual forums training videos and inperson sessions;
  • Effectively respond to the food security and nutritional needs of our community during present or future public health crises;
  • Develop and implement strategies to increase program visibility funding participation and effectiveness;
  • Other duties as assigned.


Requirements

As the successful candidate you will have relevant postsecondary education leadership experience demonstrated knowledge of communitybased programs and provincial support systems as well as the ability to demonstrate the principles of equity diversity and inclusion in all aspects of work.

Additional experience and qualifications include:

  • Demonstrated collaborative communication and leadership style with volunteers and colleagues to clearly communicate program objectives and share the workload;
  • Demonstrated experience developing and evaluating programs while managing budgets within operational parameters;
  • Demonstrated experience of successful program implementation;
  • Experience in nonprofit sector with knowledge of social programming hunger and poverty issues is an asset;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with proven ability to communicate effectively with general public funders volunteers Board members major donors foundation staff media outlets and community audiences;
  • Able to establish and maintain effective relationships with diverse and multicultural individuals to build organizational capacity;
  • Competency in Word Excel PowerPoint and other software programs;
  • Graphic design skills are an asset;
  • Able to work independently with a work plan and manage multiple projects deadlines and priorities;
  • Proactive takes initiative and makes decisions effectively;
  • Team player with a positive attitude;
  • Valid BC driver s license and access to a vehicle.

This is a fulltime onsite opportunity (Monday Friday 40 hours per week). Salary will be aligned with experience level and is anticipated to start between $29 to $32 an hour. In addition to base salary the COFB offers a comprehensive benefit plan and a vacation entitlement that allows for work/life integration.
