Head of Department Biology

Key Responsibilities:

1. Leadership and Administration:

   • Provide visionary leadership for the Biology department setting strategic goals and objectives in alignment with the institutions mission and values.
   • Oversee the daytoday administrative operations of the department including budget management resource allocation and staffing decisions.
   • Foster a culture of collaboration inclusivity and academic excellence within the department.
   • Represent the department in faculty meetings committees and other institutional forums.

2. Curriculum Development and Assessment:

   • Lead the development review and enhancement of the Biology curriculum to ensure relevance rigor and compliance with accreditation standards.
   • Monitor and assess curriculum effectiveness through student learning outcomes assessment and feedback mechanisms.
   • Stay abreast of advancements in the field of Biology and integrate new knowledge and technologies into the curriculum.

3. Faculty and Staff Management:

   • Recruit mentor evaluate and support faculty and staff within the Biology department.
   • Provide guidance and professional development opportunities to enhance teaching effectiveness research productivity and service contributions.
   • Foster a collegial and supportive work environment that encourages collaboration innovation and continuous improvement.

4. Research and Scholarship:

   • Promote a vibrant research culture within the department encouraging faculty and students to engage in scholarly activities and pursue external funding opportunities.
   • Facilitate interdisciplinary research collaborations both within the department and with other departments or institutions.
   • Ensure compliance with research ethics and safety protocols.

5. Student Engagement and Success:

   • Support student recruitment retention and academic success initiatives within the Biology department.
   • Advise and mentor students regarding academic and career goals research opportunities and professional development.
   • Foster a studentcentered learning environment that promotes critical thinking creativity and scientific inquiry.

6. Community Engagement and Partnerships:

   • Cultivate relationships with external stakeholders including industry partners government agencies nonprofit organizations and community groups.
   • Seek opportunities for collaborative projects internships and experiential learning experiences for students.
   • Serve as an ambassador for the Biology department promoting its contributions to the local national and global communities.

Qualifications:

• A doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) in Biology or a related field.
• Substantial teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate level with a record of excellence in instruction and curriculum development.
• Demonstrated leadership experience in an academic setting preferably in a departmental or programmatic role.
• Active engagement in scholarly research or creative activities with a strong record of publications grants and/or other scholarly achievements.
• Excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders and foster a culture of inclusivity and respect.
• Commitment to the mission and values of the institution including a dedication to excellence in teaching research and service.
