Requirements:
Active VA license
BC/BE in General Geriatric Or Forensic Psychiatry
BLS/ACLS Certification
DEA Certificate
Proficiency in EHR (Cerner Millennium) documentation
3 more years as a Physician/Practitioner
Strong experience working with patients having Serious Mental Illness (SMI)
Psychiatric Crisis Management and Forensic experience a plus
Experience working with adult admissions or geriatric admissions and acute and chronic health management of adult and geriatric populations.
Comfortable working on admissions work up and potential rapid turnover
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Responsible for patient care that includes examination evaluation diagnosis and treatment of medical illnesses for adult and geriatric psychiatric inpatient population.
Serves as medical consultant to the attending psychiatrist/practitioner.
Completes admission medical assessments (including history and physical examinations mental status examination) and entering admission orders.
Orders diagnostic/therapeutic tests and procedures.
Monitors patients progress including laboratory values and special procedures with appropriate followup or referrals as needed.
Consults with authorized representatives/legal guardians on patient medical status.
Collaborates with attending psychiatric practitioner if needed providing DSM5 Diagnoses that are valid complete and supported by timely and appropriate assessment.
Provides coverage to the medical clinic the admission suit to ensure the admission process is completed.
Prescribes medications at the lowest effective dose in accordance with rational clinical practices. Assesses and address medication sideeffects and report adverse drug reactions.
Ensures timely and quality documentation (admissions followup and annual etc.) in patient records in accordance with policies procedures regulatory standards and guidelines.
