Position: Medical Coder
Location: Candidates must reside in Washington or Oregon.
Responsibilities:
- Accurately assign diagnosis and procedure codes to various healthcare records including Emergency Department Ambulatory Surgical Center Hospital Ambulatory Surgical Center Observations and Inpatient records.
- Maintain quality and productivity standards for ICD10CM ICD10PCS and HCPCS/CPT coding systems.
- Adhere to coding guidelines established by CMS NCHS AMA NCCI UHDDS Medicaid and our client.
- Communicate with physicians to clarify diagnoses and procedures.
- Abstract clinical data from health records and perform other assigned duties.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Review medical records and assign appropriate codes.
- Utilize coding software systems and electronic patient data systems.
- Validate codes and maintain system accuracy.
- Identify incomplete or inaccurate documentation and take corrective actions.
- Stay updated on coding guidelines and regulations.
- Assist with special projects and maintain confidentiality.
Qualifications:
- Minimum five years of coding experience with proficiency in inpatient facility coding.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Certification in RHIT CCS or RHIA.
- Experience with EMR systems and computer proficiency.
- Advanced knowledge of coding systems medical terminology and healthcare regulations.
- Fluent in English with strong communication skills.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills ability to work under pressure.
- Adherence to ethical coding standards.
- Willingness to undergo a coding skill test.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Degree in Health Information Management.
- Extensive experience in healthcare coding and reimbursement guidelines.
- Proficiency in computer software programs and data analysis.
- Indepth knowledge of ICD10 coding guidelines and CMS HCC Risk Adjustment coding.
