Overview
The Academic Counsellor plays a crucial role in providing guidance and support to students ensuring their academic success and overall wellbeing. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct individual and group counselling sessions for students to address academic personal and social issues
- Assist students in developing academic plans and course schedules that align with their career objectives
- Provide guidance on educational programs admission requirements and career pathways
- Monitor students academic progress and intervene when necessary to ensure timely graduation
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to support students with learning disabilities or other special needs
- Organize and conduct workshops on study skills time management and stress management
- Participate in orientation and registration activities to assist new and returning students
- Maintain accurate student records and confidentiality in accordance with regulations
- Stay updated on educational policies resources and support services to provide accurate information to students
- Address crisis interventions and emergency situations as needed
- Implement and assess counselling strategies and programs to enhance student success
- Evaluate and document the effectiveness of counselling services through feedback and outcome measurements
- Collaborate with academic departments to enhance student retention and success

Required Qualifications
- Bachelors or Masters degree in counseling psychology education or related field
- Proven experience in academic advising student counseling or related roles
- Demonstrated knowledge of learning and developmental theories
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion
- Knowledge of academic programs curriculum requirements and graduation criteria
