A national trade association representing the world s leading chemical and plastics manufacturers, currently has an opportunity for a Director for its Federal Affairs division located in Washington, D.C. This organization represents its members on public policy issues; coordinates the industry s research and testing programs; and administers Responsible Care , the industry s environment, health, safety and security performance improvement initiative.
The position is responsible for representing the organization and its members on Capitol Hill and, as appropriate, the Executive Branch. The position is also responsible for developing lobbying and related advocacy strategy on assigned issues; managing and collaborating with outside counsel and lobbying consultants; scheduling and facilitating meetings with lawmakers and staff; as well as responding to congressional inquiries and requests to testify at public hearings. The position collaborates closely with appropriate in-house staff and reports directly to the Vice President, Federal Affairs.
Requirements
Required qualifications include strong Capitol Hill contacts and the ability to quickly create new ones; the ability to quickly learn new issues, acquire a depth of knowledge, and be an effective advocate for those issues; the ability to manage a diverse set of internal and external customers representing manufacturing, automotive, building and construction, durable goods and other plastics related sectors; and strong organizational skills, creative, out-of-the box thinking, a collaborative approach and an ability to both lead and be part of a team as appropriate.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor s degree in Purchasing, Supply Chain Management, Business, or related field required; three years of experience of professional level procurement and contract administration comparable to the Procurement Agent classification; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Driver s license and certification from the National Institute of Governmental Purchasing (CPPB or CPPO) or the the Institute for Supply Management (CPM, CPSM, or CPSD).
