You will be updated with latest job alerts via emailThe Senior Design Engineer checks completed layouts, communicates with other engineering personnel, resolves design problems, designs new products, maintains existing products, resolves difficult-to complex design problems, and implements common procedures.
Primary Responsibilities:
Designs major components or major portions of functional systems, technically advanced prototypes, and promotional or specific products using computer design and engineering systems
Develops or improves products and facilitates manufacturing operations. Develops data and makes layouts, sketches, and notes for design proposals
Investigates pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, replace ability, strength-weight efficiency, and contractual specification requirements and cost
Designs, develops and tests metallic or non-metallic structures or materials and their related fabrication processes for use in engineering designs
Reviews completed layouts and drawings to ensure clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, specifications, and accuracy of calculations and dimensioning
Communicates with the other engineering personnel to coordinate the interrelated design and ensure project completion
Designs and reviews layouts of components, calculates stack-up of detail components, and performs major cost studies consisting of new details and/or marked prints and all supporting documentation, when necessary, to facilitate operations and ensure that established objectives and budgets are achieved
Resolves design problems of difficult-to-complex scope to ensure project completion. Designs new products and processes, and improves and maintains existing products to help create better products or processes and ensure that the current and future needs of the business are met
Provides technical leadership and when required, assists in training less experienced engineers to help them diagnose and solve Responsibility Statements problems and build capabilities
Designs and implements common procedures and standard work across the organization to optimize efficiency and quality. Develops data and makes layouts, sketches, and notes necessary to present design proposal
Qualifications/Experience Needed:
Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Product knowledge base includes, but is not limited to, fluid handling equipment such as actuated or manual valves, pumping equipment, high speed blowers or fans, plumbing elements, thin-walled pressure vessels, and fluid/pneumatic seal designs
CAD modeling of parts and constraint assembly, with associated detail drawings and layouts
ANSI Y14.5 and working familiarity with GDT
Tolerance stack ups fits and clearances
Design of mechanical components, and fastening methods with consideration for Design for Manufacturing and ease of assembly
Experience in development and integration of aircraft equipment and electro-mechanical systems
Experience interpreting and creating equipment specifications, specifying and conducting verification testing, and generation of qualification and certification documentation related to Chapter 38 Water and Waste equipment and systems, or similar cabin equipment. See also RTCA DO-160
Labview or other data acquisition system experience
CFD and FEA or similar simulation tools experience
Design experience utilizing Siemens NX CAD software, Teamcenter PLM, Altium or equivalent PCB layout tool
Experience with manufacturing processes, but is not limited to machined elements, forging, casting, injection molding, thermal forming, and sheet metal fabrications
Applied experience with aerospace materials, processes, and finishes as well as electronic discrete and surface mount components
Direct experience with assembly, troubleshooting, and testing
