The Senior Accountant will ensure all compliance with respect to finances within the NDS, Harlem office. Reporting to the Controller, the Senior Accountant will work closely with finance members, executive management, the payroll department and all other required departments to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting, and maintenance of financial data within the Financial Edge reporting system. The senior accountant will also be responsible for accounting and banking, assisting with filing invoices for payments and entering payroll registers.
Responsibilities
- Ensure business transactions are reported in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles
- Work closely with team members to assist with the month-end close
- Assist with the annual audit process including the draft of the financial statements and related notes
- Research and analyze expense variances for company management
- Analyzes transactions and assists in the preparation of financial reports.
- Participate in monthly, quarterly, and annual closes, analyzes results, and ensures accuracy of financial information.
- Handling of allocations in accounts payable and general ledger.
- Manages the organization's AMEX credit card.
- In conjunction with the Assistant Controller and Controller, maintains the general ledger.
- Reconciles accounts payable and accounts receivable monthly.
- Manage balance sheet and income statements.
- Prepare schedules for annual audit and provides information to auditors.
- Prepare and provide information to various departments and practices.
- Assist with daily cash reporting.
- Prepare monthly, all bank account reconciliations.
- Maintains and balances subsidiary accounts by verifying, allocating, posting, and reconciling transactions and resolving discrepancies.
- Completes payroll journal entries for import to the general ledger.
- Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential.
- Assists Finance team members as needed.
Qualifications
- Experience with government grant administration and accounting practices.
- Experience with NYC's HHS Accelerator and NYC's PASSPORT systems preferred.
- Nonprofit accounting experience is preferred.
- Knowledge and experience with Financial Edge accounting software preferred.
