Truss Designer

Im recruiting for a full-time Truss Designer to work out of a Liberty, NY office. This person must be able to commute daily to Liberty, NY or be willing to relocate there.

Responsibilities:

Structural Analysis: Conduct comprehensive structural analysis to accurately determine the loads, stresses, and forces that the truss system will encounter. Utilize engineering principles and specialized software tools to ensure that the trusses can safely bear the required loads.

Design Creation: Develop detailed truss designs based on project specifications and structural requirements. Carefully select appropriate materials, dimensions, and configurations to achieve optimal structural integrity and efficiency.

Software Utilization: Utilize advanced design software, including AutoCAD and other computer-aided design (CAD) tools, as well as structural analysis software, to assist in the creation, simulation, and optimization of truss designs. Apply other engineering software for precise calculations and analysis when necessary.

Code Compliance: Keep up-to-date with local building codes, regulations, and industry standards to ensure that all designs comply with safety guidelines. Incorporate these requirements into the truss designs and make any necessary revisions as needed.

Collaboration: Collaborate closely with architects, engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders involved in construction projects. Work in coordination with these professionals to thoroughly understand project requirements, address design challenges, and ensure that the truss design aligns seamlessly with the overall project objectives.

Documentation and Communication: Prepare highly detailed technical drawings, specifications, and reports that document the truss design solutions. Effectively communicate design ideas, rationale, and recommendations to team members and clients, ensuring clear understanding and consensus.

Quality Control: Actively participate in quality control processes, including reviewing shop drawings, conducting site visits, and providing technical support during construction. Ensure that the trusses are fabricated and installed correctly, maintaining the highest quality standards and adherence to design specifications.

Requirements

Requirements:

• Possess a minimum of 5 years of experience in truss design or a related field, demonstrating a strong foundation in designing truss systems for various construction projects.
  
• Proficiency in AutoCAD software, with the ability to efficiently create and modify detailed truss designs.
  
• In-depth knowledge of construction industry practices, including building codes, regulations, and industry standards related to truss design and structural integrity.
  
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to conduct accurate structural analysis and ensure the trusses can safely bear the required loads.
  
• Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to meticulously review and interpret architectural and structural drawings/blueprints.
  
• Proven ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively in a team environment, actively engaging with architects, engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders.
  
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively convey design concepts, recommendations, and technical information to team members and clients.
  
• Proficient in using computer software and tools for calculations, simulations, and optimization of truss designs.
  
• A solid understanding of mathematics and its application in structural engineering, including load calculations, force analysis, and load transfer mechanisms.
  
• Exceptional organizational skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines effectively.
  
• Adherence to high-quality standards, with a keen eye for accuracy and precision in design documentation and reports.
  
• A bachelors degree in civil engineering, structural engineering, or a related field is preferred but not required. Relevant work experience and demonstrated skills will also be considered.
  

Physical and Environmental Requirements:

• Primarily work in an office environment with extended periods of computer use.
  
• Ability to sit and stand for long durations as necessary to fulfill job responsibilities.
