Job Description

The Construction Manager position is in the Project Construction Group, which is in the in the Capital Programs and Contractor Management Department. Construction Managers provide construction oversight for large capital projects, mid-size capital projects, small capital projects, engineered work orders, major maintenance projects, and special projects. The Construction Manager role includes developing and implementing the construction execution strategy for projects, providing input into project estimates, schedules, staffing plans, and overseeing the field execution of project construction work. The Construction Manager works in a team environment with Engineering, Operating Department, Construction Contractor, Plant Maintenance personnel and other groups to plan and execute successful capital projects.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Provide overall construction safety leadership through driving the Eastman Zero Incident Mindset
  2. Work as part of the Project Construction Team, collaborating with other team members including Construction Representatives and Project Inspectors
  3. Participates in project team meetings, leading efforts in early construction execution strategy and providing constructability input for projects
  4. Reviews and approve project estimates
  5. Drives early development, review and approval of detailed construction schedules
  6. Represents Construction Management in meetings (Project Team meetings, Weld Permit meetings, Hot Tap meetings, shutdown meetings, etc.) related to assigned projects.
  7. Provides general oversight of field execution of assigned capital projects, major maintenance projects, and special projects.
  8. Leads Pre-Construction Meetings and other construction phase meetings with contractors as appropriate.
  9. Prepares or reviews bid packages for construction work as appropriate.
  10. Approves contract labor purchase requisitions, major changes in construction plans, and changes in published schedules.
  11. Directs the daily activities of the Construction Representatives and Project Inspectors on assigned projects. Reviews Construction Representatives reports and stays informed of project status. Provides support for Construction Representatives and Project Inspectors when needed on day-to-day decisions.
  12. Maintains appropriate communication with project team (Engineering, Division Representatives, Contractors, etc.) regarding construction issues and status of projects.
  13. Monitors construction cost and schedule on assigned projects, identifies concerns and works with construction contractors to develop and implement recovery plan. Reviews construction contractor monthly CIWeb report data to validate reports.
  14. Regularly communicates project status as well as any potential problem areas to the superviror.
  15. Determines when projects are Mechanically Complete and coordinates the administrative items involved in closing the project (Punch list, Closing Notice, etc.)
  16. Meets with the customer department upon project completion to evaluate satisfaction with the project and its execution.
  17. Identifies work process improvements through review of completed projects, feedback from customers and project team members, and awareness of industry trends and best practices. Participates in the development and implementation of improvements in work processes.
