We are looking for an Electrical Engineer to participate in new and ongoing projects . You will have technical responsibility for a range of duties including design, development, fabrication, integration, testing and fielding of both analog and digital electrical systems. You will function as an individual contributor with general guidance as a member of a project team.
You are expected to demonstrate electrical engineering knowledge, be able to independently resolve approaches to technical problems, and have communication capabilities adequate to communicate broadly across our team s membership. Some examples: you will develop, produce, and test simple to complex printed circuit boards for various tasks; develop and implement end-to-end designs built around industrial controllers for various motion control tasks; and program FPGAs for various operations.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Development of motion control systems and specialized experimental instrumentation, collaboratively with a group of scientists and technical staff.
- Lead projects from initial concept through design review sessions, culminating with directing electronics and mechanical technicians in the fabrication and installation of novel devices.
- Troubleshoot motion control equipment, data acquisition electronics, specialized synchrotron radiation instrumentation, and other devices.
- Research equipment and suppliers and oversee the acquisition of new hardware for motion controls and data acquisition systems.
- Schedule fabrication and coordinate activities to ensure project deadlines are met on time.
- Create documentation and organize of drawings, parts lists, and assembly instructions.
- Contribute as a member of a fast-paced team in an advanced R&D environment.
-
Requirements:
BS in electrical engineering and five years of applicable experience in a research and development or manufacturing environment is required.
- Knowledge of analog/digital circuit design and troubleshooting is required.
- Demonstrated ability to implement industrial motion control systems is required, and in particular experience in the use of Galil digital motion controllers is highly advantageous.
- Experience in the design of electrical conditioning-circuits is required, such as for optical switches, transducers including LVDT s, incremental and absolute encoders, X-ray ionization chambers, and PIN diode detectors.
- Knowledge of embedded systems development and FPGA programming with VHDL is required and schematic capture experience is highly advantageous.
- The candidate must be proficient using Windows and UNIX computer environments including Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel applications.
- Experience leading a team in the development, assembly and maintenance of control systems or new instrumentation is highly advantageous
- Skill in application programming in C++ and tcl/tk and Labview is advantageous.
- Experience with CAD or Solid Edge mechanical design software, mechanical fabrication practices, reliability testing, and quality control processes is desirable.
- Operating knowledge of Dectris Pixel Array Detector (PAD) technology is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of Synchrotron Science, Structural Biology or X-ray Crystallography methods is not required but an advantage.
- Experience developing web based documentation and applications is a plus.
