Sunshine Staffing is currently seeking a Payroll Specialist to perform district-based duties associated with handling more complex aspects of payroll operations in the areas of technical responsibilities, quality assurance and retirement. Employees in this classification may direct the check preparation and production processing of the biweekly payroll; create technical communications responding to internal or external inquiries. Position is responsible for researching any variances on payroll records, and the editing and balancing of financial data and/or payroll runs. Employees have lead responsibility for training and assisting co-workers in resolving problems. Employee performs related work as directed.
Responsibilities:
Responds to internal and external customers in a timely, accurate, courteous and empathetic manner representing OCPS in a positive light.
Perform calculations and process annual, sick leave, retirement and deferred compensation payouts.
Coordinate and supervise the daily activities of the payroll function to facilitate the timely delivery of payroll in an efficient manner.
Communicate with internal and external customers resolving variances on accounts or payroll issues.
Generate various payroll reconciliation reports to ensure accuracy and regulatory requirements.
Serve as the office lead assisting co-workers through establishing and implementing office procedures and coordinating staff schedules.
Troubleshoot, monitor and resolve third party, payroll reconciliation discrepancies, and payroll overpayments.
Maintain accurate payroll and retirement records.
Calculate and process garnishment orders, retirement adjustments and contributions.
Provide information to district personnel regarding state retirement issues. Enter and maintain tax tables for retirement rates.
Prepare the weekly payroll register and payroll audits to validate all district payroll data processed.
Edit, balance, and review check runs for payroll; ensure accurate printing, signing and distribution.
Document and test enhancements to the current payroll and business systems.
Monitor and calculate court ordered garnishments and request creation of vendor master records.
Research and analyze pay and leave histories from payroll records.
Maintains knowledge of IRS federal, state, and local tax laws, Fair Labor Standards Act, Florida Retirement System and all union contractual guidelines to ensure payroll reporting compliance.
Provides payroll support, training, and guidance to approximately 35 district locations.
Handles direct deposit transactions, W-4 s and payroll problems.
Responsible for preparing off-cycle bonus payments, voids and replacement checks.
Creates and reconciles spreadsheets on various topics at the request of the Director and Senior Manager of Payroll.
Responsible for keeping up to date on current technology, as job appropriate, being used by OCPS.
With the support of the district, attends training to ensure skill level in various technologies is at the level required to perform in current position.
Responsible for timely and accurate information they maintain as part of their job responsibilities.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED; supplemented by college-level course work or vocational training in accounting/finance; supplemented by five (5) years of related experience in an accounting/finance/payroll area or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. SAP experience preferred.
