Job Description

This key role oversees the main aspects of a finance function, also directing the local fiscal function of the company in accordance with MSC Cruises policies and in-line with appropriate financial management practices within the industry. The Head of Finance acts as a Business Partner to the local Management Team and supports the headquarters located in Geneva and the growth of the company. Functional reporting to the Finance Department in Geneva headquarters.

Tasks

  • Coordinates, controls and manages the whole financial accounting of the German legal entity as well as the team, composed of six direct reports
  • Supervises cash collection of our B2B partners and B2C customers
  • Focuses on cost control processes throughout the organization monthly follow-up of SG&A costs vs budget/forecast for both Germany office and Contact Center located in Salzburg
  • Prepares the annual report under local GAAP for the German legal entity
  • Prepares the yearly budget, quarterly forecasts with the Managing Director
  • Ensures the timely and accurate completion of the monthly group reporting in line with corporate guidelines
  • Highlights any potential change in local accounting that might affect the group consolidated accounts under IFRS
  • Liaises with external auditors
  • Initiates appropriate strategies to enhance cash position locally and in line with the global cash policy of the company
  • Develops a reliable cash flow projection process and reporting mechanism including a minimum cash threshold to meet operating needs
  • Handling bank relationships
  • Ensures the compliance and implementation of transfer pricing guidelines
  • Ensures timely and accurate completion of all tax returns for the German legal entity (value added, trade and corporate taxes)
  • Informs the management of any relevant change in the legal/tax framework to anticipate any potential financial impact
  • Evaluates the finance division structure and team plan for continual efficiency and effectiveness improvement of the group as well as provide individuals with both professional and personal growth with emphasis on opportunities (where possible)
  • Creates relevant analysis and reports to support the management in taking decisions
  • Enhances and/or implements policies and procedures of the organization to improve both operations and effectiveness of the company, with particular emphasis to the service provided to our trade partners and customers
  • Participates to the development of the company s plans and programs as a strategic partner
  • Is responsible for contract management incl. company insurances of the German GmbH (company-, substance-, & other insurances)

Requirements

  • Professional fluency in both German and English is mandatory. Any additional European language is a plus (French, Italian, Spanish)
  • Bachelor or degree in Finance, MBA a plus, with 5 years of relevant managerial experience which includes accounting (German GAAP, IFRS skills), cash/working capital management, cost controlling and contract negotiation experience in an international environment as well experience in Budget planning
  • Good knowledge of closing financial statements according to the German Commercial Code (HGB) and according to IFRS
  • Experience in group reporting packages
  • Ability to explain complex financial information & processes in a clear way
  • Experience and capacity to write internal finance processes
  • ERP/SAP experience is a key expertise (minimum four user years)
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office applications, especially Excel
  • Leadership, team management and coaching experiences
  • Preferably relevant work experience in the tourism industry, ideally in the shipping market
  • High resilience, flexibility and hands-on mentality
  • Strong business acumen
