JOB TITLE:Unarmed Security Guard

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Security Guards have a crucial and highly visible role in support of NPSs mission. They are usually the first (and sometimes only) contact visitors have with a uniformed presence at the New York City National Monuments. Visitors and federal employees perceive the Security Guards to be an integral part of the safety and security mission. It is crucial that Security Guards always realize the importance of their role and perform their duties courteously and professionally.
A minimum of one guard will be on duty at each site at all times. Guards will patrol in full uniform at all times with the following minimum equipment: notepad and pen, working flashlight, and any appropriate means of communication such as a cell phone. Guards working outdoors will wear appropriate headgear, dependent on the weather, and badges must be visible on the outermost layer of clothing. The wearing of reflective sunglasses when talking to the public is not allowed. Guards on duty will ensure that a minimum of two roving patrols are conducted during each shift. Guards will perform their patrol at irregular intervals. Guards will perform the following duties during their patrols:
Monitor exterior doors, exterior walls, guard booths, gates, barriers, and maintenance areas. Guards will ensure they are closed, locked and secure while checking for damage and vandalism.
Monitor and record any external lighting outage and report it to your Manager and Site Supervisor.
You ll bring these qualifications with you:
Possess a current New York Security Guard License certification
U.S. Citizenship, including E-Verify screening to confirm employment eligibility
Minimum age of 21 years
Complete background investigation through Federal Level II, cleared prior to employment with no criminal history
Literacy in English (verbal and written)
Ability to maintain professionalism and show self-control under stressful situations, including various forms of behavioral interviewing and screening to ensure our Security Officers have proper skills to deescalate potentially violate situations and mediate without confrontation or violence
Ability to be personal, engaging, and hospitable to the public in a professional manner
Computer literacy to generate reports in a clear, concise, accurate, and detailed manner
Must be able to withstand the physical demands of the job. The candidate must have no condition which might preclude performance of any task assigned under this task order including full binocular vision corrected to at least 20/30 and no significant hearing impairment being able to hear normal conversation at approximately 20 feet.
Drug testing passed prior to employment (conducted through Quest Diagnostics)
Meet one of the following:
Two years of security experience within the past five years; or
An associate degree accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in a related field and at least one year of experience; or
One year of military or National Guard (active duty or reserve) experience; or
Any reasonable combination of the above (i.e., one year of security experience plus one year of college coursework related the field)
