Job Description
- Training staff in proper techniques for administering care to animals and preparing them for public interaction
- Conducting research on animal behavior, health care needs, and husbandry practices
- Evaluating staff performance and providing feedback to improve job performance
- Developing and implementing exercise plans for animals based on age and species, including feeding schedules and environmental conditions such as lighting and temperature controls
- Observing animals for signs of illness or distress, feeding them, and providing other basic care as needed
- Providing information about animal care and behavior to the public through educational programs
- Maintaining records of animals’ medical histories, special dietary requirements, and other pertinent information
- Supervising and managing the daily operations of an animal care facility such as a zoo or pet store
- Training animals to perform in shows, movies, or other events such as concerts or sporting competitions
