Job Description

The global travel retail industry is a 70 Billion market expected to double by the end of this decade. Despite its size, it is an industry that has seen very little digitalization and innovation over the past two decades. This must be solved. This is where Duffle comes in.

The timing could not be better to emerge as a category winner: the global pandemic has accelerated the demand for a better and renewed approach to global travel retail, and as the world begins to open again, pent-up demand for travel and travel-related retail is set to boom as brands, retailers, airports, and airlines are doubling down their efforts to make up for lost sales.

This is a unique startup position - with sufficient funding, we can offer the impact, growth opportunity, and challenge of a new startup along with competitive compensation.

We are searching for an exceptional, entrepreneurial, and energetic full-time Chief Marketing Officer to join the team, working closely with the CEO to build the next-generation global travel retail platform. As CMO, you will be responsible for defining and implementing the G2M strategy and vision of the company, building a world-class marketing team from the ground up, and owning the mobile-first user acquisition. The perfect candidate has international start-up experience, loves challenging the status quo, and can build, lead and scale high-performance teams but also needs to get their hands dirty to collaboratively solve complex problems and build scalable and secure solutions.

Tasks

  • Work closely with the CEO and leadership team to define the Marketing strategy, set clear priorities and measurable goals for the department, and define the investment and resources requirements to achieve our goals and objectives.
  • Build the Marketing department at Duffle from scratch. You will set up the core foundation of the MarTech infrastructure, and negotiate and sign with all relevant MarTech partners, to implement the initial MVP G2M strategy.
  • Define growth and expansion strategy for post-MVP in alignment with Operations and Product. You will define the MarTech and G2M strategy in terms of online presence, online (performance) marketing - mobile-first - and the on-site at the airport.
  • You will be responsible for defining the proper marketing budget across multiple channels with the goal of app adoption growth among travelers as quickly as possible.
  • Identify the right (data) partners to drive traffic, drive (potential) customers, and ensure conversion optimization.
  • Build and Lead the Marketing team. There will be a big focus on hiring an exceptional marketing team, probably freelancers, at the start.
  • Close collaboration with Operations and Product. You will ensure a data- and mobile-first strategy is implemented in all key metrics and trackable data points.

Location: HQ in Berlin. We have a hybrid work environment balanced between home and office.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in a Marketing leadership role - preferably with startup experience in marketplaces, logistics, or eCommerce companies
  • Strong leadership and entrepreneurial mindset: do-as-I-do with a hint of pragmatism and get-stuff-done mentality, empowering, enabling, and engaging teams to become autonomous, fast-decision-making, self-motivated and engaged members of the company
  • Creative problem-solving skills: out-of-the-box, pragmatic and quick solutions supporting both management and engineering teams to remove any obstacles and ensure continuous progress
  • Strong negotiation skills: able to see win-win solutions both internally that help prioritize and optimize resources within the technical team and externally with partners and service providers
  • Continuous personal development and learning: encourage and support continuous education, learning and training across the teams to provide personal development growth opportunities for each team member
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, strategic thinking, and willingness to always be available to mentor anyone that needs help or support
  • Innovative mind: the ability to explore and identify new ways/areas that help solve complex business issues, further differentiates the company and services, accelerate growth or provide significant cost optimizations through automation
