The Database Manager / Administrator will evaluate and/or design existing or proposed databases to meet project requirements.
Complete Description:
The position will submit recommendations for functional improvements for existing systems databases or work with the data architect to develop new project database structures. The incumbent is someone with a high level of technical skills with databases, and will work with developers, and have a strong business acumen. An understanding of best practices in regards to IT security is critical. The Senior DBA will have with both technical skills for designing, developing, collecting, organizing, and retrieving specific portions of databases, and enough general and business knowledge to understand the significance and utility of the information the databases contains. This resource will assist the agency in providing data regarding onboarding, operational matters, and items needed to complete the project requirements. Engage with project team to understand and guide interoperability requirements of the project. The analyst will collaborate with project teams to design, implement and continuously improve data-driven solutions that are secure and efficient to support organization initiatives. Senior Database Analyst job duties include: Act as an application DBA and work in coordination with Indiana Information Office of Technology (IOT) DBA's for various System DBA needs on a day to day basis for all hosted application(s) for Indiana State Department of Health. Provide assistance to developers for resolving technical Oracle and application issues, document and implement Oracle best practices. Work to resolve and alleviate failures, problems, or concerns in a timely manner. Experience with Application code deployment Designs databases for recovery, high availability, and performance and maintenance. Maintain data dictionary by revising and entering definitions. Consults with, and makes recommendations to, business and technical groups at all levels to define data requirements, evaluate data technology needs, and formulate solutions. Determine changes in physical database by studying project requirements and identifying database characteristics, such as location, amount of space, and access method. Assist Data Architect with designing databases for recovery, high availability, and performance and maintenance. Ensure systems agency's security practices. Confirm project requirements by studying user requirements and conferring with others on project team. Works with Senior Information Security Analyst in keeping information secure and confidential. Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in technical societies. Consults with, and makes recommendations to, business and technical groups at all levels to define data requirements, evaluate data technology needs, and formulate solutions. Analyzes data needs and requirements of existing and proposed systems and develops technical, structural, and organizational designs and specifications. Changes database system by coding database descriptions. Protects database by developing access system and specifying user level of access. Maintains user reference by writing and rewriting database descriptions. Experience with Cloud technology such as Azure and AWS is nice to have. Nice to have knowledge of DevOps repositories, CI/CD pipelines
Job Requirements: Extensive knowledge in the technology of both the DBMS and the operating system chosen for the data warehouse or data mart Extensive knowledge in a normalized database in an Oracle 19c or later environment Extensive knowledge in software and utilities related to supported DBMS such as Reorg, Backup, Recovery, Load, Unload; Extensive knowledge of capacity planning and disaster recovery; Extensive knowledge of relational database and/or data warehouse design techniques, dimensional modeling processes, data normalization; Extensive knowledge of computer hardware/software capabilities and configurations; Working knowledge of computer programming, including computer languages and testing of programs; Broad knowledge of data communications, including networking, Mainframe Connectivity, and Communications Server Nice to have experience in Cloud technology such as Azure and AWS; Extensive knowledge of the most recent technical developments in the database administration field; Ability to perform logic analysis; Ability to manage multiple hardware/software projects and priorities; Ability to analyze, communicate and recommend future needs and direction for agency's data processing software/hardware environment; Ability to read and understand complicated technical manuals; Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; Ability to apply theories, principles and methodologies to existing computer software; Ability to write complex database computer programs, macros, scripts, etc.; Ability to guide and coordinate the work of others.
