Job Description

At Bristol Myers Squibb, we are inspired by a single vision transforming patients lives through (link removed) oncology, hematology, immunology and cardiovascular disease and one of the most diverse and promising pipelines in the industry each of our passionate colleagues contribute to innovations that drive meaningful change. We bring a human touch to every treatment we pioneer. Join us and make a difference.

The Immuno-Oncology and Cellular Therapy Thematic Research Center is one of the fundamental research and early development engines delivering therapeutics to patients. Our mission is to drive leadership in the use of immune effector cell-based therapies in hematological and solid cancers. More specifically, we are focused on developing engineered cell-based therapies, as well as biotherapeutics, both aimed at harnessing the power of immune cells to mediate anti-tumor activity. The team integrates discovery research seamlessly with preclinical sciences, translational research and early clinical development in collaboration with colleagues across the Research and Development organization. Our thematic focus allows the group to capitalize on the cutting edge science that underpins the action of many of the companys most innovative therapeutics, without being constrained by drug modality or disease indication.

The Immuno-Oncology and Cellular Therapy Translational Research team is looking for a creative and driven Associate Scientist to help advance our portfolio of cell therapies that have entered early clinical trials. Key responsibilities of this role are to assess the pre-clinical efficacy of potential combination therapies, provide biologic insight into the mechanisms of efficacy or resistance/relapse of our therapies, and identify new indications for our clinical stage assets. The successful candidate will conduct laboratory-based experiments to contribute to mechanism of action and drug combination studies that would enable deeper durable responses for patients. The candidate must be familiar with mammalian cell culture and setting up in vitro functional assays to measure product functional attributes such as proliferation, cytokine production, phenotypic analysis, and cytotoxic activity. Prior experience with clinical samples, human T cells and/or evaluation of CAR-T is preferred. Flow cytometry experience is highly preferable. In addition, this position will work closely with senior researchers to execute studies, analyze data and communicate timely results. Highly team-oriented outlook and ability to prioritize multiple workstreams are a must. This position is ideal for an innovative, self-driven scientist who is forthcoming; willing to learn; and is passionate about cell therapy in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Primary responsibilities:

Interrogation of primary human material; cell handling, setup, and maintenance of tissue culture studies

CAR T cell phenotypic analysis using flow cytometry. In vitro functional evaluation using T cell/Tumor co-culture assays

Cytotoxic activity using IncuCyte

Cytokine assessments using MSD and intracellular cytokine production by flow cytometry

Collaborating with scientists and other researchers to design, perform and optimize in vitro experiments

Maintaining notebooks with detailed documentation of protocols, study designs and results

Perform data analysis and interpretation

Organize findings for effective communication to supervisor, colleagues as well as at external conferences

Basic Qualifications

B.S. in biological science, immunology, or related discipline with 2 + years of relevant academic and/or industry experience

Preferred Qualifications

2+ years of immunology laboratory experience with in-vitro cell-based assays

Experience with primary cell culture

Ability to analyze, interpret, and present scientific data in a clear manner

Strong organization, time management and problem-solving skills with attention to detail

Desire and ability to expand skill sets at the bench and knowledge base through independent reading and seeking out information from colleagues and project collaborators

Working knowledge of clinical samples, human T-cells, and functional assays to evaluate CAR T cells

Experience with high-parameter FACS (10-15+ colors)

Prior experience writing method development protocols

Able to recognize potential problems and recommend/develop appropriate solutions
