Job Description

The Position: Assistant Corporate Controller


The Manager Accounting Operations & Reporting will act as a business partner for multiple stakeholders and report directly to the Corporate Controller. This position is responsible for the financial management of the Controllers group including: timely and accurate preparation of financial reporting requirements, including quarterly and annual GAAP and Statutory Financial Statement preparation in conjunction with the Controllers Group.


Responsibilities:



  • Evaluation, implementation, and maintenance of accounting policies and procedures related to both GAAP and Statutory Accounting requirements.

  • Researching and evaluating new GAAP and Statutory accounting pronouncements for applicability and implementing when required to ensure compliance of financial records and reporting.

  • Effectively coordinating Controllership efforts in responding in a timely manner to state insurance department regulatory inquiries exams and internal and external audit requests.

  • Evaluating exam or audit findings and implementing recommendations.

  • Providing support for the annual budget process and completing budget to actual reporting and various other business analyses.

  • Maintaining strong financial processes, procedures, and internal controls.

  • Effectively interacting with other departments and corporate areas in the completion of initiatives and projects.

  • Management of staff to ensure timely completion of numerous quarterly and annual state compliance filings.

  • Identifying opportunities to improve processes to enable team to improve customer satisfaction and capitalize on increased efficiency to take on additional value-added responsibilities that can benefit the profit center and company.

  • Review planned acquisitions, provide analysis of the impact on financial reporting, and develop a plan for integrating it into ledger and reporting processes.

  • Evaluating annual statement reporting changes and coordinating efforts of staff, other areas and corporate to ensure that changes will be completed efficiently and accurately.

  • Maintaining Workday to ensure that ledger can capture accurately and efficiently financial information required by the companys profit center management and statutory reporting.

  • Identifying business execution risks; developing contingency plans and coordinating execution.

  • Demonstrating a collaborative approach to problemssolving by successfully working with and effectively communicating with other areas (i.e. actuaries, business units and operations) and with corporate by clarifying detailed projects and process information.


Qualifications/Experience:



  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting or Finance required

  • CPA or MS in Accounting Required.

  • 7+ years of progressive life or health insurance industry (blue book) with strong statutory and GAAP financial reporting experience.

  • Management / leadership / supervisory experience strongly preferred.
