Responsibilities of the Senior Mechanical Engineer: The ideal candidate would be very familiar with the fundamentals of designing HVAC and plumbing systems for buildings, including performing cooling/heating load calculations, identifying and choosing appropriate system types, designing typical air-side systems including ductwork design, static pressure drop calculations, equipment selection, etc. Experience designing chilled water, condenser water and heating hot water systems, including central plant design, pumping systems and piping system design and layout is also required. Development of complete sets of construction documents from schematic design to final CDs and specifications is required. Coordinating construction administration duties (answering RFIs, reviewing submittals, conducting site visits, meeting with project stakeholders) is also a requirement of this position. Again, working with, teaching, and guiding a staff of junior engineers is of paramount importance. A primary function of this Engineering Level is the complete ability to take any size job from inception through project closeout. This will include understanding and/or developing the projects scope, fee, and schedule. Input into the three activities may be required. Working knowledge of computer aided design drafting to produce designs into routine final drawings and performing limited Revit operations is a plus, but in general, this level of engineer will rely on actual drawing production from junior engineers and designers. Requirements of the Senior Mechanical Engineer: Minimum of bachelors degree in engineering from an accredited four-year college or university. Minimum of ten years of experience as a mechanical engineer in the building construction industry, either with an A/E or a MEP firm.
