Job Description

Join us on our journey to bring sustainable logistics to our cities and reduce the externalities of last-mile delivery.

Palmo automates the dispatching of electric delivery fleets and optimises their routes in real-time. This allows them to reduce costs, deliver more with their existing fleet and ultimately become more competitive compared to traditional van delivery.

We are a small team of experienced builders and, having recently raised our first round of funding, are now looking to build a world-class engineering team. If you care about our mission, are deeply passionate about your work, and want to shape a high-growth startup from day 1, we d like to talk.

We are headquartered in Berlin and this role requires working on-site for a few days a week with our tight-knit engineering team. We believe that some face-to-face interaction is critical at our early stage and enables us to move faster, but also value the focus and freedom that remote work can offer.

Tasks

We are looking for an exceptional Full Stack Engineer with a back-end focus. You'll report directly to the CTO and have ownership and responsibility over key areas of our product and technology. As one of our first colleagues, you will be crucial in shaping Palmo s success and culture. We are looking for a generalist who is excited at the prospect of mastering new technologies to solve business problems, and will enjoy the thrills of fast-growing early-stage startups.

Your focus will be on building and maintaining our back-end infrastructure. This includes the system around our purpose-built route optimisation algorithm, which requires secure, resilient, and real-time ingestion, consumption and processing of data from various delivery management systems and other integrations.

More specifically, your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the end-to-end lifecycle for the production of software
  • Developing and designing APIs and Data Connectors
  • Preparing databases for functionality
  • Working on troubleshooting, debugging, and software upgrades
  • Establishing data security and data protection settings
  • Creating optimised database schemas and implementing security and data protection systems in PostgresDB
  • Ensuring the code written is scalable, reusable, and works well across multiple applications inside our repository
  • Coordinating with teams responsible for other layers of the product infrastructure

Requirements

  • 6+ years of professional software development experience
  • BS degree in Computer Science or a related technical field involving coding or the hard sciences (e.g. physics or mathematics)
  • Have experience with system languages (C++, Go)
  • Expertise in DevOps and container orchestration using Kubernetes
  • Design and implementation of micro-services in NodeJS
  • Knowledge about distributed systems and technologies (gRPC, Kafka, SQL, Redis)
  • Experience with cloud provider APIs, best practices and management (AWS and GCP)
  • Experience with Terraform, Helmfile, Prometheus and Grafana
  • Experience working on either complex enterprise-grade systems or proven ability to build a greenfield product from start to finish
  • Experience with GitHub/GitLab CI/CD
  • Big plus: experience with Hasura and Event-Driven Programming, optimisation algorithms/operations research and with mobility and logistics

You are:

  • Passionate about solving climate change and excited to contribute to doing so at a fast-paced startup.
  • Self-motivated, have a growth mindset, and are excited at the prospect of new challenges
  • Highly adaptable and flexible. If you thrive on uncertainty and are looking for a wild ride, you will like it here
  • Thrilled about your work, take ownership and pride yourself on being able to get a lot done and do so at a fast pace
  • A team player with good communication skills is key, as building a product of Palmo s complexity is a highly collaborative effort
  • Gifted with high attention to detail, as we are building mission-critical infrastructure for our clients, without which they ll struggle to operate
  • Passionate about software development, new technologies, industry news, etc. it s not just your career, it s your hobby.

Benefits

  • Use your experience to work on the most important problem of our generation. This is an opportunity to truly make an impact - for our clients, cities and climate
  • Be among the first people in the company, shape Palmo s trajectory & technical stack from day 1
  • Turbo-charge your career progression and grow with us
  • Competitive salary and very significant equity
