Job Description

As our new Lead Engineer, Airframe Design you play a key role in designing the Electron 5 aircraft, a single-piloted, battery electric aircraft, which in its first iteration will be able to carry 4 passengers or 500kg payload over a 500km+ distance. You'll be joining an ambitious start-up which is on a mission to "make zero emission, on demand, regional air mobility a reality".

Tasks

  • Progress Electron 5 aerostructure design to next levels of iteration
  • Lead structural analysis and conduct key calculations (like FEM)
  • Select composite materials for all structural components
  • Work closely with a cross-functional team to ensure smooth integration of electric propulsion system and related components into aircraft
  • Liaise with internal certification teams and external regulatory bodies to define the aircraft certification programme with regards to proposed Means of Compliance (MoD) and defining the way forward to ant SRD (Significant Regulatory Differences)
  • Manage key supplier relationships for all composites and other structural components
  • Support both ground and flight testing activities
  • Recruit and lead the structural engineering team
  • Provide reassurance to management through rigorous project management

Requirements

  • 5+ years of work experience in an aerospace structural design environment, covering fuselage and flight deck structural design/integration backed up by an engineering degree in aerospace or similar
  • Understanding of stress requirements, safety factors, loadings conditions, F&DT, and structural certification requirements (EASA CS-23 standards)
  • Experience with aircraft development programmes (ideally in an OEM environment) through the entire design, development, certification, and production lifecycle (EASA/FAA Part 23 or 25)
  • Strong CAD skills (ideally Solid Works or OnShape, in-depth knowledge of drawing standards (specifically BS8888), and experience in geometric dimensioning and tolerance (GD&T)
  • Hands-on experience in manufacturing and assembling close tolerance parts, tools, aids, and fixtures using workshop machines and hand tools (incl. CAM software and CNC machines)
  • Good team player who is curious, proactive, results-orientated and shares our passion for "making zero-emission, on-demand, regional air mobility a reality", ideally combining corporate and a start-up experience
  • Fluent in English (both verbal and written), Dutch not essential
