About the research group

The Nephrology and Renal Transplantation Group's interests span a broad field, ranging from immunology, renal replacement therapy, transplantation, chronic kidney disease, including diabetic nephropathy, and regenerative medicine. Our research is primarily translational, collaborative and aimed at improving the care and health of patients with kidney disease. In the area of Regenerative Medicine, our vision is to develop new therapies and treatments for acute and chronic kidney disease by controlling inflammation and activating endogenous regenerative mechanisms or by using renal progenitor cells.

Tasks

About the role

We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher interested in developing his/her activity in the field of regenerative medicine in Nephrology. The researcher will work on recently funded projects focused on developing new treatments to model renal disease through the management of renal progenitor cells in basic research projects as well as in clinical translational research. Work will also be carried out in the area of transplantation. In both cases the research will be carried out in collaboration with leading EU research groups. Examples of recently funded projects: ("Implementation of personalised management in nephrotic syndrome (PER-NEPH), "Addressing progressive interstestitial fibrosis after renal transplantation: role of cellular senescence and iron deposition" (PI21/00931).

Job requirements

Professional experience

• One or two years of postdoctoral studies
• Background in mechanism of organ repair, inflammation and fibrosis
• Candidates with proven experience in any of the following topics will receive a higher consideration in the selection process: regenerative medicine, senescence, cell therapy, organoids, 3D culture, experimental mouse models and bioinformatics

Education and training

• PhD in Health Sciences: Medicine, Biology, Pharmacy or related bio-medical discipline
• Publication record with at least 2-3 first-author articles in high impact journals.

Technical skills

• Candidates with experience in handling and characterizing models of tissue repair, gene editing, cell therapy, organ fibrosis, flow cytometry, cell sorting, confocal microscopy and molecular techniques will be preferred.
• High motivation, project planning, analytical and critical thinking, ethics and integrity, leadership, information seeking and management, good communication skills

Languages

• Good command of the English language

We will value, but not required

• FELASA B and any additional training in work with murine models
• Knowledge on bioinformatic tools
