Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use
Scope of Position:
The Application Engineer (AE) (m/f/d) is responsible for representing Corning as a product and system expert for all EMEA region. She/he must be technically knowledgeable about the application, assembly and specifications of Corning Optical Communications products in order to provide correct information to our customers quickly and reliably. The AE must understand the customer needs and promote the value of Corning solutions which meet those needs in order to achieve the highest profitability.
Responsibilities:
Provide technical support, training and presentations of Corning products directly to end customer, installer, or distribution partners
Advise customers (internal or external) about products and their use in various applications. Must be able to explain benefits and determine detailed list of part numbers required for a system solution in order to fulfill customer RFQs (request for quote)
Create datasheets and technical papers and customer responses as needed
Provide pre-sales and after sales customer support including product recommendation, system design, system installation training, testing, and troubleshooting at customer site
Provide feedback to development/PLM (product line management) regarding new product evaluation, product improvements and compliance to regional standards and norms
Required Skills:
University Engineering Degree Required
+2 years of Telecom or Datacom experience
Fluent English and German writing and speaking skills
FTTH/MDU, Long Haul Network Design knowledge and related proven experience
Demonstrated Technical Support Experience (customer oriented, field solutions, timely responses)
Ability to convey technical, complex ideas to highly technical customers/colleagues or - as well - less technically inclined customers/colleagues
Ability to work comfortably in team collaboration in order to support others, learn from others and share information with others
Strong computer skills (MS Windows based: Power point, Word, Excel, Visio)
Energetic with a desire to learn
Desired Skills:
Good hand skills: basic mechanical /troubleshooting/repair skills
Telecom active equipment configuration: Ethernet switches, IP routers, OLT/ONT, etc.
Basic programming skills (Python, Visual Basic, Excel)
Any additional EMEA language (French, Spanish, Italian, Arabic, etc) will be considered as a plus
Travel Requirements:
Up to 25% of the working time as required. Primarily continental Europe. However candidate must be prepared to travel anywhere within EMEA region including Israel, US or Asia for support
Valid local driving license
