Job Summary:

Must have :

  • This position is posted as a range. Qualifications, education and experience will be considered in determining appropriate classification.

  • Position responsibilities and accountabilities will vary accordingly based upon the assigned classification.

  • Looking for a Civil Engineer with civil engineering experience (2 to 6 years) and leadership skills to perform civil site engineering assignments for Electric Substation and Transmission Line projects.

  • This position is classified as "Hybrid". Hybrid employees have some, but not all, work tasks that are required to be performed from an on-site Client location.

  • As a hybrid employee, you will be required to report to the New Albany, Ohio office two days per week (Tuesdays and Thursdays).

  • The remainder of the week should be worked from home unless there is a field assignment or otherwise directed.

  • Qualified candidates shall possess knowledge of civil site engineering principles through education and/or demonstrated project experience related to site grading, stormwater management, drainage design/analysis, roadway design, retaining walls, earthwork, erosion and sediment control, permitting, surveying, etc.

  • Knowledge and/or experience using AutoCAD and Civil3D software is desired.

  • Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering examination in preparation for future licensing as a Professional Engineer (PE) is encouraged and preferred.

  • Successful candidates will possess the proven ability to assess and recommend best case civil engineering solutions and collaborate with higher level non-civil engineers and other project stakeholders in solving civil engineering related challenges in consideration of safety, performance, cost, constructability, risk and liability.

  • Travel (~10%) is required for this position and will consist of trips to the field to diagnose civil engineering issues related to electric transmission lines and substations.

  • Field assignments are generally within a 5-hour driving distance of the assigned office location. Hours are Monday through Friday, 8 hours per day.

  • Some OT may be required, as approved.

Minimum Requirements:

Engineer Grade 6:

  • Has typically acquired 2 or more years of related engineering experience along with a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering in a program accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).

Engineer Grade 7:

  • Has typically acquired 4 or more years of related engineering experience along with a Bachelor's degree in engineering in a program accredited by ABET

  • 2 years of related engineering experience along with a Master's degree in engineering from a program accredited by ABET

  • Individuals with a PhD in engineering from an engineering program accredited by ABET*

  • may be considered for entry into the organization at this level;

  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico** is encouraged and preferred..

  • ABET - Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology.

  • Acceptable alternatives are (1) a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (non-ABET), plus a Professional Engineers (PE) license in any state of the U.S. or (2) a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (non-ABET) plus a Master's degree in Civil Engineering from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelor's program.

Engineer Grade 6:

  • Possesses intermediate level knowledge and performs varied assignments with proficiency in the application of theory and analytical techniques to solve diverse problems and complete extensive analysis.

  • Demonstrates competency in analytical techniques necessary to handle assignments of moderate complexity. (e.g., by dividing the problem into component steps, and performing the analysis necessary to complete each step.)

  • Exhibits ability to understand interrelationship between systems and component equipment. Demonstrate ability to analyze and recommend enhancements to business processes.

Engineer Grade 7:

  • Possesses advanced knowledge and performs varied assignments with proficiency in the application of theory and analytical techniques to solve diverse problems and complete extensive analyses.

  • Understands interrelationship between systems and component equipment. Analyzes and recommends enhancements to business processes.

Leadership & Guidance:

Engineer Grade 6:

  • Coordinates work activities of others within the work group, department, or other corporate entity as necessary to complete routine activities.

  • Performs routine engineering activity with minimum direction from higher-level employees. Follows policies, practices, standards and rules of the company and those regulations and procedures required by external agencies.

  • Provides training and guidance to lower-level employees.

Engineer Grade 7:

  • Coordinates work activities of others within the work group, department, or other corporate entity as necessary to perform routine engineering work.

  • Performs routine engineering activity independently. Provides training and guidance to lower-level employees.

Planning & Organization Ability:

Engineer Grade 6:

  • Coordinates the development of input necessary to forecast costs for the routine projects, improvements requisitions, etc.

  • Uses scheduling techniques (CPM, PERT, flow charts, etc.) for budget and planning activities. Initiates corrective action when project objectives are not being met

Engineer Grade 7:

  • Develops input necessary to forecast costs for the routine projects, improvements requisitions, etc. Monitors project status and recommends action accordingly.

  • Prepares cost estimates using established standards.

  • Develops understanding of the workflow for routine engineering projects. Accomplishes work according to plans and schedules established in conjunction with higher-level employees.

  • Resolves and initiates solutions to routine problems which usually require additional definition/clarification before analysis can begin.

  • Demonstrates ability to identify problems that are beyond the normal routine.
