Roles and responsibilities

The Commis Pastry Chef assists in the preparation and presentation of a variety of baked goods and desserts. This entry-level position offers the opportunity to learn and develop skills in pastry techniques, while contributing to the overall success of the pastry kitchen.

Duties & Responsibilities

.

Project courtesy, hospitality and professional behaviour across your department at all times with guests and fellow colleagues.

.

Prepare mise en place as required.

.

Clean kitchen areas including storage facilities as required.

.

Execute the preparation of dishes in your station according to established standards and procedures.

.

Monitor and inspect dishes to ensure they are prepared according to established standards and procedures.

.

Oversee the cleaning tasks of Stewarding to ensure all pastry kitchen facilities are cleaned, sanitised and maintained to hygiene standards maintain licenses and certificates as required of the Food & Beverage outlets.

.

Monitor and inspect Kitchen and storage areas regularly to check storage temperatures and standards and maintain accurate and up-to-date records.

.

Ensure all pastry kitchen facilities are cleaned, sanitised and maintained to hygiene standards maintain licenses and certificates as required of the Food & Beverage outlets.

Assist with receiving and inventory practices and prevent improper handling, damage, spoilage or theft of inventory items.

Ensure the strictest guidelines for food safety and handling are practiced.

Ensure all health and safety precautions are met to established standards and procedures.

.

Maintain a complete understanding of the Employee Handbook and adhere to regulations contained therein.

.

Maintain a complete understanding of the Hotel’s policy relating to fire, safety and health, and ensure all precautions are taken to safeguard against incidents for areas under your supervision

.

Perform other assignments to meet business needs as directed by your superiors.


Desired candidate profile

Qualifications:

  • Culinary degree or relevant experience in a pastry kitchen preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of pastry techniques and baking methods.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately.
  • Good organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Team player with a positive attitude and a willingness to learn.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to [specify weight, e.g., 50 lbs].
  • Comfortable working in a hot and busy kitchen environment.
