Textile designers have many responsibilities including:
Designing: Create patterns and designs by hand or with computeraided design (CAD) software. Textile designers may also create color palettes using Pantone chips.
Sampling: Make samples by dyeing and printing and present them to customers.
Researching: Keep up with fashion and textile design trends and research new fabrics and designs.
Collaborating: Work with clients technical staff marketing and buying staff to plan and develop designs.
Producing: Produce handmade products or send designs for manufacture.
Marketing: Market and sell products online at craft fairs or through retail outlets.
Traveling: Attend trade fairs and travel nationally or internationally.
Working with materials: Consider the cost and quality of yarns dyes and materials.
Specializing: Specialize in an area such as clothing furnishing fabrics or hand crafted textiles.
