GAI Consultants Inc. is seeking a Senior Project (Technical) Specialist with 10 years of experience in water/ wastewater engineering to join our talented and energetic team in either our Orlando or Jacksonville FL office. An ideal candidate has planning design permitting and construction experience as well as client relationships in the Florida municipal water/wastewater market. We are looking for a motivated person to join our team to build our business with technical project management and business development abilities. This position is an excellent opportunity to grow into a leadership position as the Florida Water Division expands its portfolio and range of services. The successful candidate will be eligible for a signon bonus.
Job Duties:
- Independently perform and guide multidiscipline teams on the completion of water and wastewater planning evaluation design and construction projects related to collection conveyance and distribution systems pump stations storage and treatment facilities and asset upgrade/rehabilitation.
- Plan and manage projects from inception through construction and startup including client coordination team chartering scope schedule and budget development and management safety quality assurance/quality control project profitability and staff workload coordination.
- Provide technical execution and oversight of design projects including schematic/preliminary design design development final design specifications permitting bidphase services and construction contract document production.
- Lead water/ wastewater consulting tasks including flow projections hydraulic modeling master planning detailed design calculations alternative analysis and selection cost estimating equipment selection project prioritization and CIP development.
- Mentor and develop junior staff for both technical and project management knowledge skills and abilities.
- Contribute to business development activities including opportunity identification proposal development interviews/presentations and client relationship cultivation.
- Serve as a primary doer/seller for the Florida Water Division growing into a goto GAI representative to clients key contractors and design partners professional organizations and in the communities we serve.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Minimum 10 years of experience in the municipal water/ wastewater market involving master planning hydraulic modeling technical reports design of conveyance systems (including pipelines in public rightsofway) treatment process/facility design regulatory permitting services during construction and/or other technical services.
- Minimum 2 years of experience serving as a Project Manager leading and directing multidiscipline project teams both internally and externally with a track record of delivering on time and on budget while meeting or exceeding client expectations.
- Excellent technical writing verbal communication and leadership skills working in a dynamic team environment.
- Sense of urgency and selfinitiative to meet deadlines and develop new business opportunities.
- Experience in Microsoft Office Microsoft Project AutoCAD/ Civil 3D ArcGIS and industry hydraulic and design modeling software.
Preferred:
- 10 years of engineering experience with at least 3 of those years serving in an engineerofrecord capacity for water and/or wastewater projects.
- Experience with the delivery of crossmarket projects.
- Trenchless pipeline design permitting and construction experience.
- Facility and pipeline condition assessment field and data management experience.
- Alternative project delivery experience including DesignBuild Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR) and/or Design Criteria Professional methods.
- Successful client management/ business development experience in Central and/or North Florida.

- Occasionally oversees large or multidiscipline project teams.
- Recommends facilities personnel and funds required to carry out projects.
- Occasionally oversees technical legal and financial issues of an entire project.
- Integrates these components into a complete project management plan for a complex engineering project.

- Determines project objectives and requirements.
Management Responsibility
- Receives administrative supervision with assignments given in terms of broad general objectives and limits.
- Implements staff development plans within their practice segment including technical management and leadership skills.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of leaders and teams.

- Possesses exceptional oral and written communication skills including negotiation of critical issues.
- Integrates different forms of effective and persuasive communication to technical and nontechnical audiences.
