Duties and Accountabilities
- Produce accurate translations of text from English to Arabic and/or vice versa within an agreed timeframe.
- Quality check and proofread translations: ensure that no typographical errors are left in the final text.
- Ensure the timely delivery of translated and edited materials from English to Arabic and/or vice versa.
- Ensure that translations retain all information without any additions, omissions, or changes of meaning.
- Provide simultaneous interpretation on an occasional basis for meetings and workshops/conferences, as and when required.
- Provide interpretation for international staff during meetings with counterparts and field trips to project sites.
- Incorporate formatting into the translated material(s) as per the original text. The STC will be expected to ensure consistency of design and layout between corresponding translated documents and the original English, or Arabic documents.
- Upon IFC’s review of the translated document(s), incorporate changes as required by IFC and provide the corrected document within an agreed timeframe.
- Documents and correspondence required to be translated may include, but are not limited to, word documents, presentations, agreements, articles, reports, letters, memoranda, emails, pamphlets, advertisements, and training materials.
- Perform similar or related duties, as and when required.
Selection Criteria
- A relevant combination of professional training, language certification/qualification and demonstrable experience is required.
- Six to eight years of professional experience in written translation, with a proven track record of translating technical, legal, or financing documents, agreements, and presentations and interpretating work from English to Arabic or vice versa. Excellent command over legal and financial terms is required.
- Demonstratable experience working with international organizations, prominent private sector companies, NGOs, and governmental organizations.
- Excellent written, listening and spoken command of both English and Arabic.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Excellent proofreading skills with the ability to identify grammar, spelling and punctuation errors.
- Ability to manage work schedules to meet deadlines.
- Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to multitask.
- Flexibility to translate documents or interpretate on short notices with tight timelines.
