The opportunity: We are seeking a qualified School Counsellor for August 2024. The successful candidate will provide a professional and confidential counselling service to our students, promote their wellbeing and help build their resilience. This is an excellent opportunity to join a friendly and welcoming community in one of the leading international schools in the region. Skills and qualities: • A bachelor’s degree in psychology (or similar field) and a master’s degree in Counselling or Psychotherapy, preferably related to children • Minimum 2 years’ post qualification experience • BACP/ UKCP registration (or similar) • Further therapeutic training or qualifications in working with children and young people preferred. Qualifications in CBT, play therapy, drama therapy, art therapy would be an advantage. • An understanding of the developmental, emotional, social, and educational needs of children and young people. • High level of cultural awareness and sensitivity • Strong communication and interpersonal skills • Ability to collect and analyse data and produce high-quality reports • Ability to work professionally and independently as well as collaboratively Key Responsibilities: • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people • Promote the school’s vision, mission and values • Manage a caseload of students who require confidential one to one counselling or therapeutic group work for a range of social and emotional needs • Provide support, guidance and advice to parents and carers • Maintain appropriate and confidential records • Work collaboratively with the Designated Safeguarding Leads across the school to evaluate the needs of identified students and determine appropriate levels of support • Work collaboratively with the pastoral team to respond in a timely and effective manner to student needs across the school • Continually review and evaluate the counselling service • Actively engage in professional development opportunities to support the role
