General Surgeon

Position reports to the President of Medical Group Provider Services.

Position Responsibilities

Physician is a full time employee and as such is expected to spend an average of 40 hours per week

performing the duties of this position.

Clinical Responsibilities

Provides General surgical services to include a minimum of 36 hours per week attending to direct

patient care in the ambulatory and inpatient/ outpatient care settings. Patient care includes scheduled

and unscheduled office visits in a medical practice setting in addition to hospital consults hospital

care and surgical cases.

Works actively with hospital case managers and other professionals to keep patient lengths of stay at

appropriate levels providing inpatient care in a fashion that is both efficient and compatible with

high standards of patient care.

Ensures continuity of care for all inpatients admitted under Physicians service or treated by

physician under the practices service.

Provides telephone and where required onsite clinical call coverage for the practice. Participates

in night and weekend call coverage.

Provides General Surgical Consults within 24 hours of request; performs preoperative workup for

patients and obtains consents

Completes all discharge summaries no later than one week after discharge and signs all charts within

14 days of discharge.

Performs other clinically related administrative responsibilities as required to adhere to high quality

clinical standards.

Assists with developing a strong network of referring physicians.

Communicates directly clearly and regularly with other physicians on clinical and practice

management issues so as to facilitate good patient care and efficient operations of the practice.

Treats all practice and hospital employees with respect and communicates with all employees in a

professional manner.

Submits all required billing documentation on a daily basis and shall include all information

required to bill for the services provided by physician.

Teaching

Physician will participate in teaching of interns and residents as assigned by the Vice President of

Medical Education the Chief of the Department of Surgery and/or the Chief Medical Officer.

Physician will also teach on an adhoc basis as required on all Teaching Service patients.

Research

Physician will participate in medical research and/or clinical trials as assigned by the Chief of the

Department of Surgery and/or the Chief Medical Officer.

Other duties

Attendance at Hospital Medical Staff and Departmental Meetings as assigned. Participate on

committees at hospital as assigned. Participates in activities at hospital as requested.

Assist in the marketing and development of the Surgical practice including speaking to

community groups attendance at community events and participation in the development of media

communications.

Minimum Requirements

Maintain an active medical license to practice in Pennsylvania in good standing.

Maintain Board certification in Specialty.
