A Scientific Review Officer must have a comprehensive knowledge of the diverse and complex award mechanisms understand the critical need to avoid conflicts of interest have the ability to exercise objectivity and fairness to applicants set up the appropriate review panels and evaluate applications in the context of the initiatives

Statement of Work Details

• Performs administrative review of research grant applications
• Identifies specific areas of expertise for the peer review panel searches databases and resources and prepares lists of potential reviewers.
• Prepares preliminary drafts of summary statements
• Validates and enters information into databases
• Identifies involved persons who must be on a conflict of interest list and identifies deficiencies which must be addressed prior to review.
• Attends peer review meetings to take notes for use when preparing final summary of documentation of meeting proceedings.
• Obtains written critiques from reviewers.
• Evaluates incoming reviews for completeness and accuracy.
• Analyzes scientific content of grant applications.
• Mentors and trains staff on scientific peer review processes and procedures.
