Position SummaryThe Surgical Technologist provides limited direct patient care under the supervision of the RN. Activities include handling instruments, supplies, and equipment for surgical procedures, understanding of the procedure being performed and anticipating needs of surgeons, maintaining the sterile field, clean and preparing instruments for disinfection and sterilization, assist other members with room turnover and cleaning.Education and Experience RequirementsEDUCATION:Required:Graduate of an accredited surgical technology program or LPN programPreferred:LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:Required:BLSCertification of Surgical Technology or LPN Licensure in the State of IowaPreferred:TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:Required:Basic knowledge and understanding of surgical principles and practiceAbility to take appropriate action in response to changes, problems, emergency situationsAbility to read and understand oral and written instructionsProficient communication and interpersonal skillsBasic computer knowledgeExcellent customer service skillsAbility to be flexible and demonstrate accountabilityPreferred:One year of surgical experienceEssential Job FunctionsFocuses on patient safety and maintains clinical competencies as required for all assigned areas as appropriate to scope and training. Advocates for the patient.Participates as a member of a supportive and collaborative team.Maintains knowledge of and adheres to AORN Recommended Practices.Maintains knowledge of and adheres to Surgery Policies and Procedures.Demonstrates fiscal responsibility in time management, resources and use of supplies.Performs all other duties as assigned.
Shift: M-F Days, Call every 4th weekend F-M and rotating call throughout the week.
