Job Description

Description

The Department of Special Education in the College of Education at The University of Texas at Austin is recruiting for a professional track faculty position to teach and supervise in our undergraduate teacher preparation program. Our department offers an alllevel special Education major that may lead to a recommendation for certification in both general education (EC6 and special education (EC12. Our program includes a 3semester program that includes coursework field experiences and a student teaching residency. Thisis a nontenure track ninemonth position beginning fall 2024. Continuation of the position is contingent upon annual performance review student enrollment and availability of funding.

This position will contribute meaningfully to a fieldbased teacher preparation program. Responsibilities can include teaching undergraduate courses representing the program to internal and external stakeholders supervising student teachers/interns and/or coordinating cohorts of preservice teachers. Successful applicants will have experience teaching Special Education at the EC12 level and teaching adult learners.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Doctorate in Special Education or related field
  • At least three years of K12 teaching experience (including supervision) in special education

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Candidates should have excellent communication skills and a studentcentered approach to teaching.
  • Experience teaching at the undergraduate level
  • K12 teaching experience in U. S. public schools is strongly preferred
  • K12 teaching experience working with students with significant support needs is strongly preferred
  • Ability to communicate in a language other than English preferably Spanish
