Department Overview
The Brigham and Womens Hospital is a level one trauma center. We care for more than 30000 patients annually in Perioperative Services undergoing surgical intervention that include: Burns Cardiac General Surgery Gynecology Laryngology Neurosurgery Oncology Oral/MaxillioFacial Orthopaedics Plastic/Reconstructive Thoracic Transplant Trauma Urologic and Vascular Surgery. The Perioperative periAnesthesia area consists of 18 exam rooms in preadmission testing 22 bays in the Day Surgery 66 bays in Pre and Post Anesthesia Care Unit.
Responsibilities
The Nursing DirectorPerioperative Services reports to the Associate Chief Nurse for Perioperative Services and is responsible for the Nursing Practice in preadmission testing day surgery pre op and post anesthesia care and surgical observation unit as well as coordination for multidisciplinary team of staff nurses patient care assistants practice assistants which totals approximately 142 FTEs. To assist this position 2 Assistant Nursing Directors 3 Nurse in charge 2 Nurse Educators. Together they are responsible for the nursing practice the daytoday operations within the Perioperative Services as well as development and implementation of strategic plans.
The Nursing Director of the Perioperative Services collaborates closely with the Nursing Directors of OR Interventional Radiology Cardiology Endoscopy Pain Service and Foxboro Day Surgery Unit Quality/Safety and Staff Development and Clinical Business Directoras part of Perioperative and Procedure Nursing Leadership team as well as with the Perioperative Medical Director Chiefs of Services and Surgical Administration.
