ob Title: Assistant Principal PYP Program Job Type: ExemptReports to: Primary PrincipalContract Days: 207 Primary Purpose: Assists the Principal to provide instructional leadership to staff including: curriculum planning review and implementation and professional development. Assists in day to day building administration and the safety and welfare of students staff and school activities. Leads the staff in the implementation of quality instruction. Ensures a safe pleasant and effective educational atmosphere provides discipline as necessary and enforces school policy. Assists the Principal to manage employees. Supports the Principal in setting the overall direction coordination and evaluation of the staff within the school. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the MWS policies and applicable laws. Responsible for interviewing making recommendations for hiring and training employees; planning assigning and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Essential duties outlined below are intended as representative examples of the level nature and decision making expected of positions assigned to this classification. SUPERVISES: Teaching Staff Other Professional Staff NonProfessional Staff and service personnel Instructional Management Participate in the development and evaluation of educational programs. Encourage and support the development of innovative instructional programs helping teachers pilot such efforts when appropriate. Promote the use of technology in the teaching/learning process. School/Organizational ClimatePromote a positive caring climate for learning. Deal sensitively and fairly with persons from diverse cultural backgrounds as to their need. Communicate effectively with students and staff. School/Organizational Improvement Help principal develop maintain and use information systems to maintain records to track progress on campus performance objectives and academic excellence indicators. Participates in districtwide activities inservices and committees as appropriate. Implements policy and procedure changes from the Board or State and/or Federal statute at the building level. Personnel Management Observe employee performance record observations and conduct evaluation conferences. Serve as second appraiser for the designated teacher appraisal system. Assist principal in interviewing selecting and orienting new staff. Ensure quality instruction is taking place in all classrooms.Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management Supervise operations in the principals absence. Help plan daily school activities by participating in the development of class schedules teacher assignments and extracurricular activity schedules. Supervise reporting and monitoring of student attendance and work with the attendance clerk on followup investigations. Requisition supplies textbooks and equipment; check inventory; maintain records; and verify receipts for materials. Assist with safety inspections and safetydrill practice activities. Coordinate support services. Comply with federal and state laws State Board of Education rules and Meridian board policy. Student Management Ensure that students are adequately supervised during noninstructional periods. Help to develop a student discipline management system that results in positive student behavior. Ensure that school rules are uniformly observed and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable. Conduct conferences on student and school issues with parents students and teachers.Continual monitoring of student achievement.Responsible Admin when off campus learning experiences (field trips) take place. Professional Growth and Development Participate in professional development to improve skills related to job assignment. School/Community Relations Articulate the schools mission to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission. Demonstrate awareness of schoolcommunity needs and initiate activities to meet those needs. Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.Perform other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities: Share supervisory responsibility for professional staff with the school principal. Supervise teachers custodians paraprofessionals clerical personnel and others as assigned. International Baccalaureate Administrators attend IB training within the first year of contract and then again with each evaluation cycle. MWS pays for the cost of IB training that is related to the teachers content area. This may be during the summer.Work Environment This position will operate in a professional nonsmoking office environment which at times can be busy with moderate noise and many unscheduled interruptions. This role will routinely use standard office equipment such as computers and peripherals phones photocopiers and filing cabinets. Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Language Skills: Ability to read analyze and interpret general business periodicals professional and technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of staff parents and the general public. Other Skills and Abilities: Maintain emotional control under stress. Work with frequent interruptions. Ability to prioritize and track multiple tasks simultaneously. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in a specific field. Ability to create and maintain effective working relationships with students staff and the community. The ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form.
