What will you do
The Respite Relief Mediator acts as a neutral impartial third party facilitator within the framework of Ontario Health atHome Team and as part of the respiterelief program. This position is responsible for helping caregivers identify needs and develop a plan that mobilizes their preexisting support network in concrete ways.
Primary Responsibilities:
This position utilizes elder mediation skills and processes to guide and assist participants to explore concerns and issues related to their care and needs. The Respite Relief Mediator facilitates communication among multiple participants which assists them towards a mutually acceptable agreement. The Respite Relief Mediator helps parties explore issues of a diagnosis of dementia to assist people in preserving and/or restoring their relationships by identifying their common interests working out any differences minimizing escalating conflicts and creating fair agreements.
Utilize mediation skills proactively to unite a caregivers support network into a common position by surfacing hidden interests and needs in order to move toward the development of a common plan of support to meet those interests and needs.
Responsible to assist the parties involved to resolve their conflicts to improve communication understand interests and priorities in order for them to generate creative solutions.
Facilitates conversations between parties to discover and agree on a mutually acceptable plan of care and provide access to selfdirected funds to assist in removing constraints or exploring alternative agreements.
Provides an effective structure through which parties share and define their understanding of the issues address impasse and develop strategies for seeking collaborative solutions.

Hours of work: 3 days one week and 3 days the second week between the hours of 8:30am4:30pm Monday to Friday 35hrs/biweek)

Knowledge:
Knowledge of the health services delivery system in Ontario
Philosophy of system integration
Planning and project management
Demonstrates strong analytical interpersonal and communication skills
Demonstrates effective business writing skills
Holds and maintains a valid Drivers license and the use of a vehicle
Conflict management skills: Ability to help participants to overcome impasses; ability to manage crises.
Fluent in issues of aging and dementia and builds rapport with the participants and demonstrates understanding of each persons situation feelings and interests.
Ability to communicate using various software programs to clearly articulate patients status and service needs
Demonstrated ability using computer technology including use of email internet various software systems and applicability of electronic communication etiquette
Understanding of OHaH Champlain services programs and business objectives
General understanding of the provincial health care system and the role of the Ontario Health atHome Champlain within it
Skills and Abilities:
Conflict resolution and mediation skills in order to manage client and caregiver conflict and offer suggestions to help the parties reach a mutual agreement
Facilitation skills to mediate multiparty multiissue and intergenerational conflict
Strong interpersonal skills to work with diverse client groups with varying levels of comprehension and language capability
Demonstrated strong client service skills and awareness of cultural sensitivity
Ability to negotiate with interdisciplinary teams
Strong collaboration skills to participate on projects and committees with colleagues across the Ontario Health atHome Champlain and with local community agencies and health professionals
Exceptional oral and written communication skills
A valid Ontario Drivers License and access to a motor vehicle are required
Fluency in English and French is required

5 shifts in a pay period: Monday to Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm 35hrs/biweek)
