Position Summary:
The Director of Planned Giving (Director) is responsible for overseeing the daytoday management of the Planned Giving staff. Reporting to the Senior Director of Planned Giving the Director oversees the marketing and stewardship functions as well as serving as the Planned Giving liaison to Legal and Finance for estates that are in administration. The Director will also hold a portfolio of major gift prospects.
Essential Functions:
The Director of Planned Giving is expected to:
Manage the daytoday operations of a team of two (the Senior Planned Giving Advisor and the Marketing & Stewardship Manager)
Oversee the Estate Administration process and provide support for complex matters that require a legal or technical background and experience. Ensures timely and compliant processing of all open estates acting as the liaison to Legal and Finance for matters of estate administration.
Oversee the strategic direction and messaging of the Planned Giving Marketing Program and the Mary & Wallace Stegner Society.
Manage a portfolio of 50 planned giving prospects at the major gifts level and serves as a liaison to Relationship Managers in Field Philanthropy.
50 Working with the Planned Giving Team and partner with Relationship Managers across the organization the Director will prospect for new planned giving donors as well as cultivating soliciting and confirming new planned gifts using research discovery calls meetings and other standard prospecting techniques.
25 Foster collaboration within the Planned Giving Team to develop comprehensive marketing and stewardship strategies as well as providing leadership and guidance to the Marketing & Stewardship Manager.
25 Manage the estate administration process and liaison with TPLs Legal Finance and Gift Administration Departments as well as the outside financial firm TIAA Kaspick that administers our life income programs.
Qualifications:
Commitment to TPLs mission of connecting everyone to the outdoors
Law degree or an equivalent of a minimum of 10 years experience in fundraising for a nonprofit organization; planned giving donor relations and stewardship experience preferred. Experience in law tax trusts & estates or wealth management also considered as equivalent experience.
Experience managing professional staff
Demonstrated track record of closing a variety of types of planned gifts
Comprehensive knowledge of planned giving principals vehicles and best practices
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a donorcentric approach
High level of attention to detail with a demonstrated track record of accuracy in work product
Knowledge of PG Calc or Crescendo and experience presenting comparative gift illustrations and proposals to donors and their professional advisors
Selfmotivation detail orientation follow through
Willingness to travel
Compensation Trust for Public Land is a hybrid work environment. As a fulltime exempt employee the Director of Planned Giving will be eligible for Trust for Public Lands comprehensive benefits program which includes medical dental and vision insurance three weeks of vacation annually plus ten holidays and a 403(b)retirement plan currently with an up to 7 company match. We offer competitive salaries commensurate with experience; the range for this position is $130145K annually.
